Well, that was a first. I was just contacted by some guy asking to buy a print of ‘the painting of the boy and his grandpa sitting on a wagon watching a rocket launch’…but tgat he coukdnt find it on my website. I replied that I never painted anything matching that description, and he sent me this obviously AI-generated rip-off of ‘The Unknown Awaits’. (Second image is my original painting). I know this gentleman meant well...he was genuinely looking for a legitimate way to get a print of an image he liked as a gift for his son...but this is going to be an interesting issue from now on.

According to Toei Animation’s official site they plan to use AI in future productions for storyboard creation coloring, automatic correction of genga and in-between frames, and generating backgrounds from photos.

This isn't a "tool", this is the theft, exploitation, and replacement of artists. This will stifle the future of artists everywhere. This future is utterly bleak. Every artist at Toei should speak out.
