@DNetolitzky At this early stage in my career I'm happy to take even a typo-riddled citation, but I'd at least like to make people work for it.

@DNetolitzky After an error in the first full draft of my PhD I now do a last minute check before submitting anything to make sure I've remembered to put the L in "public".

This is also probably a good time to say that if you ever find a typo in a piece of my published academic writing, please never, ever tell me about it. I'm still annoyed I posted "in corpus" instead of "in [a] corpus" here yesterday. #AcademicChatter

My article with @danaroemling is now available! Check it out to learn about the difference between real law and pseudolaw and how to visualize the spatial distribution of features in corpus. #languageandlaw #pseudolaw #openaccess #forensiclinguistics link.springer.com/article/10.100…

This is a topic I've wanted to write about since the early days of my PhD, meaning that some version of it has lived in my head for almost eight years! I'm thrilled to finally have this in print. Please let me know if you have any questions; I've clearly got lots to say! 4/4

The article closes with some suggestions of what a truly comprehensive description of legal English might look like, and why this matters for anyone who works with legal language. 3/4

I'm interviewed in the latest issue of @Babelzine! Check it out to see what I have to say about how I first became interested in linguistics, the concept of "lexomancy", and some of the things I've been up to since I finished my PhD.

@BustingFree It is exactly that! It was a fun way to think about what my whole thesis was about and how well that snapshot captured my overall points.

@d_grif Is this a project where scholars all talk about page 99 of their theses? If not, it should be (and I might have to start one!)

I wrote a bit about how the 99th page of my PhD thesis does (and doesn't) represent my overall findings for the CaMP Anthropology blog! Many thanks to Ilana Gershon for reaching out with this fun opportunity. campanthropology.org/2024/01/29/dav…

This was a great program that I got a lot out of! I'm very proud to have achieved Fellow status and look forward to putting the things I learned into practice in my own teaching.

I'm excited to present at @BYULaw's Law and Corpus Linguistics conference this Friday! I'm talking about one of my favorite topics: what we actually empirically know about "legal English." It'll be nice to see what a more legally-minded crowd has to say about my work.

An open invitation to all those young (or geriatric) academics who are interested in #pseudolaw. I'm not going to claim I'm the lead investigator in this subject area. But I think I'm pretty near the top of the list. There is SO much work to be done in relation to pseudolaw ideas, leaders, and populations. Neither myself nor the other investigators operating in this subject area are ever going to run out of materials, questions, and topics. (We may run out of sanity points, but that's another issue.) (Oh wait, I'm already lost into the depths of evil, so forget that question.) First, if you want to study this stuff, do it! There's a damned good chance you will be a trailblazer. Second, if you ever have questions, or are looking for resources? Ask me. I don't own this space, and I'd love to have more peers with whom to exchange observations and ideas. I also think you'll find the other investigators in this domain are equally receptive. They're good people. Pseudolaw studies are a neat space. I'm happy to say when I deal with my fellow investigators in this area, we usually have lovely collaborative discussions. I'll probably not ever know these people first-hand and in person. (And that's annoying.) But I'll simply conclude - they're a very decent lot. And if you're a fellow digger? I'm looking forward to meeting you, too.

@DrSarteschi @DNetolitzky @creaturemonster I'm surprised there's not more overlap, actually! Once after a talk I gave, someone said they thought of SovCits as "the legal equivalent of flat earthers." I wonder if anyone has looked for a pseudolaw to pseudoscience (or give versa) pipeline?

@DNetolitzky @creaturemonster Didulo posted something in the last hour or so indicating a flat earth belief. Her followers are confused since she had previously said that was not something she believed it. Guess she's a flat earther now, too
