But we're aiming to produce derivatives involving further transformation of 1-IMs and test them for various biological activities. Certainly, the reduction of the nitro group will be studied.

In compounds 7 two gauche couplings cause a broad H6 signal. In compounds 6, gauche and anti couplings produce a dd H6 signal. 3) Not yet, unfortunately

Answering your questions: 1) R1 doesn't need an Ar group, as the adduct from the isopropyl-substituted nitroalkene was obtained with high selectivity. However, this was not included due to some purification issues around this example. Future work will address this.

We did a quick study with Li, Na and NMe4 borohydrides, and with CaCl2 as additive. CaCl2 favors one epimer, whereas NMe4 favors the other one. It might be due to chelation during TS, but other factors seems to be at play, so more work is needed.
