Imagine you got into an argument with someone.
They're arguing, and you're absolutely demolishing them and their points and such, but don't stop. At some point, your friends pull you away and tell you to stop arguing. Did you lose? No.
That's what happened with the US in Vietnam and Afghanistan. We didn't lose, but what happened is the political motivation was lost. We did beat their asses and could have beat them some more, but the political motivation was lost. Plus fighting an enemy that uses guerilla tactics is hard. If they fought with proper armies like in Korea or WWII, it'd have been a piece of cake.

@Metallix87 I'm sorry man but if you want competitive games there are simply better games. People like the variance of having 100 different cards, no rotation and not being forced to copy other decks. Wizards is serving the actual customer base, sounds like you need to go elsewhere.

The game as a whole would be better off if Wizards of the Coast actively stopped talking about, designing for, and openly supporting casual Commander. Let the community worry about that. We don't need 60 Commander precons a year, nor 400 legends per year.

This isn't him saying your broke if you think $4,000 dollars is a lot of money, he's saying that the cost of living is so ridiculous right now that *sadly* $4,000 doesn't hold the weight that it once did.
