I’ve spent the last couple of days in Deniquilin on prepoll with Louise. Louise came to see me when I was a Senator to raise the issues that Farmers in the Murray basin face because of the destructive decisions made by bureaucrats in Canberra. The mismanagement of the water flows (called environmental flows which they aren’t) has caused the unnecessary loss of livestock, flooding and damage to fencing for many farmers. This is over and above the loss of irrigation entitlements. Louise has personally lost close to $2 million in property damage including the loss of 1,200 sheep - see below. What is most alarming about this is that these farmers are not entitled to compensation. The loophole is that it is the State Government is responsible and not the Federal Government for this destruction and therefore S51 (xxxi) of the Constitution isn’t applicable. This of course is just typical buck passing by gutless and weak politicians who consistently fail to defend the rights of their constituents. Instead they push narratives created by city elites who have no understanding of water flows and destruction their interference causes. The previous local member, Susan Ley did next to nothing to highlight the damage “environmental flows” did to local communities. It’s no wonder the Liberal Party is not going to hold their seat. The sooner the Uniparty is kicked to the curb the better.
