We are excited to publish this work in @PlantPhys: doi.org/10.1093/plphys… with @DamonLisch. We created two potentially novel imprinted genes using Mutator transposons. There are no things that transposons can't do!

What's really great about this kind of experiment is that the student can learn about epigenetics, development, disease response, TEs and their effects on gene expression AND test hypotheses for themselves. They can even make crosses to test their own hypotheses.

Here is why I LOVE genetics. I've got a student phenotyping and genotyping a family in our nursery. Three loci, two phenotypes, TE activity, a suppressible mutant and epigenetic silencing, all segregating. Each progeny class addresses a question and tests a hypothesis. Heaven!
