60% of Asia's naphtha imports come from the Middle East. That supply chain has now been disrupted for almost 2 months with some production plants offline for the next 2+ years. Think of Asia as the world's industrial area. But what's naphtha? Naphtha is a broad term used in the petroleum industry for a light, volatile liquid hydrocarbon mixture derived mainly from crude oil refining or natural gas processing. It’s not a single chemical—it’s a range of hydrocarbons (typically C5–C12 molecules) that sit between gasoline and heavier fuels in the refining chain. What's naphtha used for? 1. Fuel blending- A major component in making petrol (gasoline). 2. Most critical*- Petrochemical feedstock: Cracked in steam crackers to produce: Ethylene and Propylene. These are the building blocks for plastics, fertilizers, and other petrochemicals. 3. Industrial solvent- Used in cleaning fluids, paints, and chemical extraction. With the Strait of Hormuz closed, Bab Al-Mandab Strait disrupted, and several oil production facilities offline, supply chains in Asia are headed for a huge disruption. Naphtha is up over 78% this year alone 🥶. This might lead to global stagflation.

Prediction markets 101: 1. 70% of participants in Polymarket lost money while 0.04% of traders made about 70% of the profits over a study period. 2. Insider trading isn't fully investigated because there's over 700,000 daily active users on just Polymarket and Kalshi alone. 3. Average user age: 18 4. Some prediction markets take the other side of the prediction. This means they benefit when you lose. 5. Donald Trump Jr. is a strategic advisor to Kalshi 🥶. 6. Structurally, the prediction markets architecture incentivizes people with insider information to participate hence evening the odds. 7. Prediction markets company owners don't have the money nor the infrastructure to track global real world events and investigate insider trading. Source: More Perfect Union YouTube Channel.

Ethiopia is landlocked. It imports its oil mostly from the Gulf (Saudia & UAE), and the rest from India and Singapore. Its oil lands in Djibouti and gets connected to a 550km Pipeline to Addis Ababa. After all this, it lands petrol at the pump at KES 110-120 amid the current geopolitical crisis. Kenya gets oil from the same Gulf, ships it directly to its own ports, and then a pipeline that the government mostly controls. It then retails petrol at KES 206. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!
