#TonightsDessert I’m not much of a one for dessert, but I can’t resist! Strawberries boiled down with granulated Hermesetas (you can use sugar!) and Cointreau. Allow to cool, then fold in with leftover mascarpone and whipped fresh cream, refrigerate, and eat with ginger nuts. 😋

@sophiegrenham I'm the woman who couldn't give you directions to my own house. Once someone asked me where the post office was, I got tied up in knots trying to tell her how to get there. It was actually around the damn corner in the opposite direction.

Should I be very flattered that twice in one day, two lost foreign ladies have thought to approach me on the train and ask whether they're travelling in the right direction? One woman got up from her seat, having missed her stop, and asked me how to get back. She had been surrounded by people and could have asked any one of them. I'm surprised because a lot of the time, I'm convinced that I look like a cat that swallowed a wasp, but it seems not so. Is this the face of a reliable, trustworthy person? #DARTLIFE

@sophiegrenham Anyways, were you able to give them directions? I was born without whatever it takes to tell people how to get from A to B. Even when I can visualize it, I can't put it into words. Maps are beyond me too.

Within thirty seconds of my journey home, I saw two examples of selfish behaviour. We really have devolved into a "me, me, me" society. A bearded man bun climbed out of his full section and leapt onto two free seats, dumping all his crap onto it and stretched his legs out in front of him. Another man sits sideways opposite and might want to face the right way around. He's now leaned into his stuff and gone to sleep. I hope he misses his stop. Next, a woman leaned her full back into the safety pole in front of me. Were people always this selfish, or do I only notice because I'm anxious? Before you start slagging me about being older and cranky, this stuff has bothered me for years - it's just more noticeable since Covid. #DARTLIFE

@daisybruni @GwenJohnstone1 I do my best. I've even taken to standing because it gives me a kind of peace. Today, that peace was disturbed by yer man, and I thought, no, and said something. That's the last time I do it for some time.

Further to my post about people blasting noise on their phones on the train, some of you said I should approach them and ask them to stop or play noise at them to give them a taste of their own medicine. I just asked a respectable looking teenager in a school uniform to put his earphones in. First, he looked at me blankly, making me repeat myself, then indignantly denied doing anything. He couldn't have been more than 14 or 15 and kept playing crap on TikTok to spite me, telling me to mind my own business. My own business? Huh. Refusing to be bested, I gave him cheek back in front of his two older Spanish pals, who thought the whole thing was hilarious. I said, "Oh, you're so smart. It's great to be the big man." He eventually put the phone away, but I'm sure he pretended it wasn't because of what I said. This is someone's son, and look how he speaks to a woman who asks him to do the decent thing - with utter contempt. I hid it as best I could, but I am now shaking. I can't confront people like this, friends. Don't suggest it again. #DARTLIFE

@sophiegrenham @GwenJohnstone1 I get it, especially after my friend's reaction and this was a few years ago. I get annoyed and don't even think, I don't feel upset afterwards. That doesn't work for you. Maybe try to tune it out, I don't know if that's even possible, but don't take them on again ❤️
