Yesterday, a 1st grader was brought to my office for being defiant. After asking her about her life (family, pets, hobbies, etc), I challenged her to do the right thing with urgency. Today, her teacher said, “I don’t know WHAT you did, but it worked!” The power of conversation.

On this topic about parents staying “old school”, some parents do and I believe it’s so important to also teach them the importance of technology now a days. As we use it more on a daily basis it is beneficial to know more about it :)

@tom_karnes A1: I have used @Flipgrid in my class before. Almost half of my class are English Language Learners. With Flipgrid, they are able to enhance their communication skills. I emphasize to speak in complete sentences and show visuals to support their learning needs before they record.

Google forms are great to use! I’ve seen teachers use them for surveys, quizzes, questions or anything else that can be a fill in. It’s a great tool to use and also to be used with parents.

One of the technology sources I would use in the classroom is Kahoot! These resources should continue even after for students that need it. If there are language barriers, provide translation websites/apps for students to facilitate it. #CSUBTEd

So for me, I don’t have a lot of experience with teaching especially for ELL so I don’t know which apps are available. I have used kahoot and I do like the interaction it brings and how you can add visuals to it which can help when teaching ELL.
