The Luo nation must be careful not to be misused in Ruto’s fight with Kikuyus. I have seen Oburu Odinga vow foolishly that Luos will never unite with Kikuyus. Oburu has his right to support Ruto, what he cannot do is engage Luos in a terrible tribal dog whistle, just because his master, Ruto has asked him to. In the last elections, more Kikuyus voted for Raila, a Luo and Oburu’s brother more than the number of Luos who voted for Raila. It is actually the likes of Oburu who kept making noise at every rally, telling their supporters that they had deep state, and therefore didn’t need their votes. That arrogance made some 400,000 Luos not to go vote, in an election Raila lost by about 200,000 votes. Oburu should take responsibility for contributing to the defeat of Raila and stop dragging Luos into his nonsense, the Ruto sponsored Luo -Kikuyu wars.

The 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum is being held in Baku, Azerbaijan.The theme of this years forum is “Housing the world: Safe and resilient cities and communities” These are not the forums where nations send their Presidents to. They are forums where nations are represented by junior level officials such as sections heads or directors in ministries. I was therefore surprised to learn that the Kenyan President has hired a private jet, costing taxpayers kshs 4 million per hour to attend the forum. I then checked the program and found that the State Department for Housing and Urban Development is set to present at the forum. Kenya has other 7 speakers, three are from UN Habitat and UNEP, Michael from MICOP Kenya, Nassim Majidi of Samuel Hall, Nduta an advocate of Juvenile-Onset Parkinson and Sandra Odhiambo, a disability rights advocate. No Country, even our neighbors is sending their President, except Kenya. It’s either Ruto is idle or just likes wasting our taxes for him to be attending forums that the Hinga guy of affordable housing should be representing Kenya. That kshs 4 million per hour he using for that jet plus the millions that will be used to house and feed his delegation of joyrides could have been used for something helpful to the public, if Ruto had akili.

As per several announcements seen so far, schools across the country are postponing classes tomorrow ahead of the transport sector’s nationwide fuel strike. The postponements follow concerns over possible disruption to movement, with reports indicating that some roads could be blocked during the strike.

Writing off X is a serious mistake. Yes, Facebook, TikTok and Instagram have bigger mass reach on the ground, especially among ordinary voters. Nobody should deny that. But X is where the national conversation is shaped before it spreads elsewhere. This is the app where journalists pick angles, bloggers test narratives, activists frame issues, politicians watch the mood, government people panic quietly, and decision makers see what is becoming dangerous before it reaches the estate, the matatu stage, the church group or the WhatsApp family group. X may not have every voter, but it has a dangerous concentration of people who influence what voters later hear on radio, TV, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram and WhatsApp. Great ideas often start here, get sharpened here, get attacked here, get defended here, then cross pollinate into other platforms. A slogan can be born here in the morning and become a TikTok sound by evening. A thread can become a radio topic. A screenshot can become a WhatsApp forward. A hashtag can force a newsroom to cover what it wanted to ignore. So the serious campaign does not choose between X and the ground. It uses X as the war room for narrative, then pushes the message into Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, WhatsApp, radio and actual mobilisation. The mistake is thinking voter numbers alone define power. Sometimes the app with fewer voters controls what the larger crowd will be discussing tomorrow. You can dislike X. You can complain about its noise. You can even say some users here are unserious. But you cannot write it off. Never ever! Almost every serious thinker in this country is here in one form or another. Journalists are here, lawyers are here, activists are here, policy people are here, political operatives are here, creators are here, government insiders are here, and the people who shape tomorrow’s public argument are here watching silently. X may not carry the whole voting population, but it carries the people who manufacture, test, sharpen and spread the ideas that later dominate the country.
