Benjamin Keefe Clark wasn’t a police officer or firefighter on September 11, 2001; he was a chef, preparing meals for the Fiduciary Trust Company on the 96th floor of the South Tower. When the plane hit, instead of trying to save himself, he focused on guiding others to safety. A former Marine, Clark made sure everyone in his department and the 96th floor offices evacuated. According to Fiduciary senior vice president Bibi Conrad, Clark likely helped hundreds of employees escape. After ensuring many had fled, he even went back to check on others. He was last seen helping a woman in a wheelchair on the 88th floor with three maintenance workers. Clark sadly perished when the building collapsed.
