The Dales Archaeology Day 2026 event, our annual day conference, will take place on the 21st of March in Middleham. More details will be announced in February when bookings will open.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year from the YDNPA Historic Environment team. Nothing quite conjures up the spirit of the festive season like an abandoned quarry in the snow!

Our annual Dales Archaeology Day event will be returning this year. It will take place on the 29th of October 2022 in Leyburn. More info will follow on when bookings will open, but for now put the date in your diaries!

Lime burning in the dales stretches back over 800 years, and the northern dales have remains of nearly 250 kilns of various types and periods. This talk considers where and over what length of time lime kilns were built, who built them, and the uses lime was put to.

Friends of Swaledale Museum talk - 29th June, 7.30pm, Reeth Memorial Hall, DL11 6QT. Kimberley Starkie on researching Swaledale and Arkengarthdale using the resources at the North Yorkshire County Record Office. See poster for details. Advance booking required.

For the Dales Archaeology Day 2021 we ran a photo competition and this entry by Derek Twine was the runner up, with this image of Sedbusk Church in Raydale with Lake Semerwater behind.

The Malhamdale Local History Group AGM will be at 7.30pm on March 17th at Kirkby Malham Parish Hall. Members free, prospective members £3. Followed by cheese and wine. See poster for details.
