@MadForMaple @davidrmunson @EarthUncutTV Awesome! Remember seeing the same species when I was backpacking in Borneo and Taman Negara in Peninsular Malaysia. By the way, you have to visit Taman Negara! Elephants, tigers, leopards, tapirs, gaur, and 8 species of hornbills still present. Not too far from where you are.

Check out this Giant Rust Milipede I found today in #Penang #Malaysia! @davidrmunson @EarthUncutTV #critters #awesome @damian_hackett

Sorry poor sound quality. This area is wet, marsh, stream, reeds. Full of reed/bush warblers, rail, etc.
Any ideas on this call? I can’t find anything similar on ebird/merlin
Every time I get closer it stops 🤷🏻♂️
@damian_hackett @MadForMaple @EarthUncutTV 🙏
English

@Struan_Tokyo @MadForMaple @EarthUncutTV Sounds like クイナ. We only usually see them as winter migrants around here in Kansai. Is this location north of Tokyo?
日本語

No visual here. I’ve seen them dart between the undergrowth a few times but not enough to definitively ID them. Brown bird, smaller than a moorhen. I assume they are brown-cheeked rail? #クイナ @MadForMaple @damian_hackett @EarthUncutTV

@MadForMaple @Struan_Tokyo @damian_hackett afternoon gents, lovely weekend being had I hope. A head scratcher here - lakeside, very distinct chirpy call and about the size of a bulbul

English

What do you think this songster is? @MadForMaple @EarthUncutTV @damian_hackett
Merlin doesn’t recognise it and the only thing close I can think of is a Pale Thrush? #chibaragi 🐦⬛
English

@Struan_Tokyo @MadForMaple @EarthUncutTV Yeah, they tend to stick to the canopy, especially the males when singing at this time of year. They’re a little easier to see at fruiting trees in autumn.
English

@damian_hackett @MadForMaple @EarthUncutTV Oh. Yes, very similar and listening to all the recordings on Merlin I heard some of the others too. It’s been here for several days singing but in high dense canopy. Never seen this bird so will try to catch it on camera this week if possible. Thank you 🙏

English

@MadForMaple @EarthUncutTV @Struan_Tokyo Yeah! Looks like a Eurasian Goshawk. They split the Northern Goshawk into the Eurasian and American last year.
English

@EarthUncutTV @damian_hackett @Struan_Tokyo I think it's a Northern Goshawk. What do you think Damian?
English

@MadForMaple @damian_hackett @Struan_Tokyo evening fellas - fun day at the lovely park at Matsumoto airport. Sky larks galore which I imagine attract these predators. I think that’s a Great Grey Shrike (lifer) and not sure what hawk that is (sorry crap quality)

English

@EarthUncutTV @MadForMaple @Struan_Tokyo @TaiwanBirding I think that might be a Japanese accentor based on the tail length and the plumage
English

@MadForMaple @Struan_Tokyo @TaiwanBirding @damian_hackett Not sure what they did to deserve such a rubbish name but believe there was a Troglodyte on my porch this morning 😂

English

Do you remember these from your days in #HongKong @EarthUncutTV ?? Asian Koels! -- for the other bird folks I know @Struan_Tokyo @MissBrownsBoy @TaiwanBirding @BirdingBeijing @damian_hackett
English

Look what I saw today @damian_hackett @TaiwanBirding @EarthUncutTV @Struan_Tokyo @DamonBay a Lifer!! A gorgeous bird. Took photo with iPhone 14 zoomed in. Almost looks like a painting but good enough to make the identification!
English

This is just insane!!!!! I've NEVER heard a cicada before that sounds like this! Like a fire 🚨 #Nature #Penang #Malaysia #bugs @EarthUncutTV @damian_hackett @davidrmunson @Struan_Tokyo @JodyBugsMeUNL 😀
English

Saw a Sunda Flying Lemur today for the first time. This one was resting in a tree at the @Tropical_SpiceG in #Penang. They are nocturnal and elusive animals. We were lucky to spot it!! #nature #wildlife

English

@MadForMaple @TaiwanBirding @Struan_Tokyo @mido3bitte @BirdingBeijing Lots of raptors in your part of the world. Some that I’m familiar with from Australia and others from Japan.
English

@damian_hackett @TaiwanBirding @Struan_Tokyo @mido3bitte @BirdingBeijing Very cool. We see many white-bellied sea eagles and other types as well here. Nice to know. The sound really caught my attention.
English

Heard this loudly from the trees across from my school today in #Penang #Malaysia - an injured bird of prey? It was more intense earlier! @TaiwanBirding @Struan_Tokyo @damian_hackett @mido3bitte ideas? #birds @BirdingBeijing
English

@MadForMaple @TaiwanBirding @Struan_Tokyo @mido3bitte @BirdingBeijing Difficult to say… Black eagle? One was photographed a week ago on Penang Hill.
English

@MadForMaple @goodandbadjapan Yeah, Shiromadara. Haven’t seen one in the wild yet.
English

@goodandbadjapan Any ideas what this might be @damian_hackett ??
English

Anyone know what kind of snake this is? Usually only see Aodaisho near my house. This was very small (and dead) but looks a bit like a Habu which I thought were only in Okinawa or sake bottles! @MadForMaple

English

@MadForMaple Awesome! Wait till you get in there: pangolins, colugo, slow loris, mouse deer, diverse herpetofauna. Not to mention the arthropods and birds.
English

What’s this thing @MadForMaple ? mayfly vibes with forked tail but legs are all wrong. It flew very slowly like a damselfly but wings are folded back here. About 3-4cm long
