@jamiesmart I was working as a TA in a class when a teacher said this. Since I'd arranged comic conventions in the school for several years for the kids, it took all my strength not to go completely ballistic.

You hear this in bookshops too, and on the mums forums. Absolutely fuming. It’s pig-headed stupidity, and it’s detrimental to children reading 🤬

My ten-year-old son has been told by his teachers that he can't take comics or manga in to read as they "aren't proper books" and they "won't help him develop his reading skills". Like, WTAF? This is why children fall out of love with reading, and it's utterly heartbreaking.

@spleenal @ManMadeMoon After having a massive clear out of discs a few years ago ('I don't need these; I can stream it all!'), over the past 6 months or so I've switched back to streaming less and watching physical media a lot more

@ManMadeMoon Streaming keeps letting me down.
Either the thing I want to watch is on a service I don't have, or it's nowhere at all!
I've taken to scouring the charity shops for DVDs.
Streaming is the illusion of availability.

@PixelDan This likely wasn’t a “majority choice” with over 50% of the vote. It could have received 30% of votes with the others splitting the remaining 70% evenly, at ~23% each. You had 3 nostalgia items & 1 totally new & that could have caused an unexpected split in votes.

@WannabeSpidey @PixelDan I don't understand why Mattel have focused so heavily on snakemen for so long. Are they so popular a faction that the original handful of characters needed expanding and expanding and expanding..?

I think as an enemy faction the Snake Men just aren’t that interesting. Their figures are all just slight variations of the same thing. I would rather get a Horde playset with a throne for Hordak instead, and new enemy characters for both Skeketor and Horde factions instead of this.

I think we're at an interesting turning point with toy collecting. I personally don't see the crowdfund model lasting too much longer, but I've been wrong a lot.

@MIKECOLLINS99 @ManMadeMoon I was at a Star Trek convention and someone asked Scott Bakula about his reputation for being super nice to everyone on set. He said it was the only sensible way to act in an industry where someone's secretary today might have advanced to be your boss tomorrow

@Triple_Takeover The one and only time I had to drag one of my kids - screaming his lungs out - from a shop was when my now 17yo demanded he have one of these. He eventually got it (discounted) for Christmas
