Just like Musk, Dawkins rides on the coattails of those actually doing the labor of discovery and takes it as their own. Please sit down and shut the fuck up, no one likes you asshats except other asshats like you.

I always disliked Dawkins for his methods of discourse. He is a cunt, and like the OP states in the thread, why the fuck do I need to listen to the opinion of a person who doesn't even do research any more? Write a MODERN paper on Evo bio, and MAYBE I would respect his opinion.
Erik Svensson@EvolOdonata

I profoundly disagree with the smearing of the journal @ASNAmNat by @RichardDawkins and @Evolutionistrue: I am a (proud) long-term member of the editorial board of American Naturalist which is still one of our most important journals in evolutionary biology 1/n

This whole thread is why I teach high school Biology now. I couldn't even try to do this and care for myself and family. I love my research, but not more than myself. To expect maintenance of an old status quo (already out of date) to be followed during/after a pandemic is gross.

I am teaching high school bio, and after years of travel and research in amazing places my kids ask a similar thing. My answer has become "Why do you think you don't DESERVE teachers like me/us/that?" Being in education is a struggle, but that doesn't mean kids deserve less.

Not to mention, they DESERVE a break from school, like adults DESERVE a break from their job. My students are in high school, and many work to help family, and have some really f*coed home situations. Homework is NOT an option.

I don't bc my students do NOT have equal access to resources. I can NOT send every1 home w/ a textbook & it's no guarantee they have internet. We work as a collective in class, and I have "homework" days where students have access to me, peers & all the resources to do work!
Caitlin 🚗 🧀 Driscoll@TeacherOnTopic

There are a lot of reasons to oppose homework, but the one I think I believe in most is the idea that students and families should be free to choose how they spend their own time.

When Teachers are pleading for higher pay it’s real. Let me break it down to you. I get paid $1,900 after taxes every two weeks. Rent is $1,700 alone. So I have to set aside 850 out of my check. I’m down to 1,050. Cable is 150, Phone bill is $250(multiple devices),

@IBJIYONGI We also live in a condo, so walks in the adjacent neighborhood is necessary due to no yard. Where there is no side walk, he is no further than 2 ft from the road and still no exploring flower beds. I wouldn't want to weed and garden if dogs were in my flower beds 🤷🏻‍♀️

@IBJIYONGI My pup only explores the grass between sidewalk and road. No front yards, or flower beds is our current training. I always clean up poop, but also don't want to walk 5-10 ft on to another's property to do so, so it adds to the why for that training.

@HeatherWeaverDC @tinysapien Off leash time is for dog parks. Frankly leash training while hiking is the best time to train good behavior. Squirrel over there, nope "stay" look at me, etc.. Its such a great time to enjoy nature, teach your dog, and allow all animals to enjoy that time.

@RodVeronica2 @IBJIYONGI In the article this person openly states that BOTH of those men ruined what should have been a celebration of the hard work of those who won the awards being presented for in that moment. Awards that MADE history but has been woefully over-shadowed by what happened.

@federermusicman @e_sylviapoet @heymrsbond In my experience in a highschool +95% black, if a white student uses this word it is in an agressive/vulgar way. But my black students use it when they see friends in the hall & is in no way meant as a slur. Do I punish the latter? Why if so?

After myself getting the benefit of joining a union this year with my job I totally agree with this. Disappointing since I like to shop with them, but not surprising given they are a corporation trying to make $ and paying and treating your workers right reduces that amount.

Until REI walks this back, apologizes, and ensures that they will allow the process occur without interference I cannot in good faith buy gear from REI. I encourage all of my followers and Co-Op members to do the same.

perhaps controversial take, but something that I've been thinking about awhile. when students take Mammalogy, they're not expected to collect & kill a bunch of mammals. same for Herpetology, or Ornithology. why are Entomology students expected to collect & kill a box of bugs?

@LMDiepenbrock But I did have a great undergrad course that had a guided review sheet due with any articles required as reading. It helped you gather all the important information and determine any faults in the work in an easy to understand format.

@LMDiepenbrock Where I did my masters is was a required seminar to learn how to critically examine literature, but that was grad level. We looked at published articles and tore them apart in class, and compared them to exceptional articles on the same topic.

Out of curiosity, how many people actually learned to understand scientific literature in a class during undergrad? I'm not including internships/research experience if you had that opportunity.
