As more towns and cities vote to come into compliance, I want to get the facts straight on the MBTA Communities Law. The overwhelming majority of communities that are required to come into compliance have done the work to do just that. The momentum and progress are there.

If you read the Globe Spotlight report on sky-high housing construction costs and wondered “who can afford to live there?”, this brief is for you. And it’s why we are so focused on creating new homes, particularly more affordable homes, in communities across MA.

@MassGovernor Affordable Homes Act has its first hearing this week at the Joint Committee on Housing. Read this thread for why passing this bill, and doing so without weakening the critical policies and provisions included, will set Massachusetts up to meet the moment.
Clark Ziegler@clarkziegler

In October I was honored to join @MassGovernor and @MassLtGov for announcement of their proposed $4.1 billion Affordable Homes Act. It’s a bold proposal that meets the moment. Now comes the hard part: getting a strong bill through the legislature. Reposted thread 1/18

@amydain Excited to report we passed it 10-1 just now! The only “no” was from someone retiring. Lots of the conversation centered on the fact we’d like to do MORE affordable than this allows (even with our waiver to 15%🤞) & fears the state will change the goalposts on compliance. A win!
