unfortunately this has some truth to it. I wouldn’t call her character a nothing burger but they’re still right. The dehumanization of El in s5 was so obvious and intended. They started of the season treating her like a machine training with literal phrases like “I need to charge my battery” “cant you just try, load up on junk food or whatever” . There were literal posters of El for this season with “I NEED TO RECHARGE” or smth like this written on it. they purposely ruined every single bond she had with anyone in the show (had almost no scenes with anyone in the party) and made her barely interact with anyone outside of hopper. Them putting her in dehumanizing outfits all season long (we never even saw her hair down). The wetsuit and the slick back…. The hairdresser (Matt’s wife) literally said that they did that on purpose to capture the essence of season 1 when she was in the lab with Brenner. They also made everyone too okay with her ending and made almost no on mourn her or mention her in the epilogue. All to make her sacrifice seem okay and not too heavy
