Dear Mark Zuckerberg (@Meta), I’m writing to make you an offer. Let me run Facebook Shop for one year. I don’t want a salary. I don’t want equity. I don’t want a title. What I want is one year, full autonomy, and complete access to twenty of your best engineers—product minds who are hungry to build, not just optimize. Why? Because Facebook Shop is one of the most powerful ideas Meta has touched, and it’s being dramatically underutilized. Right now, it feels buried, clunky, and disconnected from what makes Facebook so uniquely powerful: trust, community, and reach. You already have the distribution. You already have the data. You already have the creators, the brands, the attention. What’s missing is a focused, obsessed operator to turn that raw potential into an actual commerce engine. I’ll build it. I’ll prove it. I’ll make it better than any other social commerce platform in the world—measurably. Give me one year. Twenty great engineers. No politics. No meetings with your team daily. No weekly progress reports (other than monthly or quarterly). Why do I want to do this? I love facebook. I love the product you've built. I love what it can do. But no one is doing commerce inside of facebook the way it should be done. And at the end of that year, if Facebook Shop isn’t a serious threat to Amazon, TikTok Shop, and Shopify, I’ll walk away and pay you $5 million. This amount isn't meaningful for you or facebook, but it is to me and I want you to know I have skin in the game to make it the best ecommerce engine ever. If you feel like I haven't done that, no hard feelings. No invoice. Just the satisfaction of having tried my best. Take the money and donate it to a charity you believe in. But if it works—and I know it will—we’ll have built something that changes the trajectory of Meta’s commerce strategy forever. Let’s build something people actually want to shop on.
