Cashier jobs will evolve. They will be front of house roles where they can manage different requests, handle returns, sell controlled products (cigarettes, lottery tickets, money orders etc) and help customers with whatever is wrong.

People are just fighting AI because it makes them feel good for some reason. AI isn't good or bad, it just is. AI exists and markets are going to adapt along with it. There is no virtue in arguing against it.
