Back in February, during the Hallelujah Challenge team photoshoot, Pastor @nathanielblow stopped to pray for me and shared a few prophetic words. One caught me completely off guard. He said the World Bank would invite me to speak at one of its biggest summits, and that I would play a headline role. I said “Amen,” but honestly, I was confused. I already worked with the World Bank, so I could not see how that word would unfold. He must have noticed my face, because he said it again with even greater conviction. I received it and carried on with life. Fast forward to April. A call with the manager of the World Bank Youth Summit changed everything. They wanted me to headline and curate a @hatricksbytolani session for more than 7,000 delegates, the first of its kind in the summit’s history. Two fireside chats. One with the President of the World Bank Group. The other with me, alongside the CEO of Voice of Africa KAD, on Finding Your Voice and the Power of Storytelling. I did not believe it until the confirmation email arrived. Then the flyer. Even then it felt surreal. Somebody say, “Jesus Iye.” God does not need our understanding to fulfil His word. He simply needs our obedience. There are some things hard work cannot explain, and this is one of them. Pastor @nathanielblow , thank you for speaking with conviction that day, even when my face said I did not understand. You held the word steady until I could catch up to it. And there is one more part of this story. Hatricks will tell it soon.

It was my birthday yesterday and boy oh boy, the kini really kini-ed🥹 So let me give a quick backstory. This is my first official public birthday post. I grew up in a family where birthdays weren’t really a big deal. You wake up, pray, and then we eat our favorite food. No parties, no cake-cutting, no big celebrations. That was just how it was. It even got to a point that in my final year, a friend of mine somehow discovered it was my birthday and posted me. My roommate at the time didn’t even know it was my birthday, so I was honestly don’t know how she found out (maybe I mentioned it in passing). When I saw my picture on her WhatsApp status. I actually told her, “Please take my picture down,” because I wasn’t used to all that attention. I liked the idea of birthdays… but not the spotlight. Last year, I was going to do the same thing again, but I came on LinkedIn and saw that so many people had already posted me. I couldn’t just ignore them, so I made a post to appreciate them instead. So again, like I said before, this is my first official birthday post. I went for a shoot, I prepared, and I openly celebrated myself. And honestly, it’s overwhelming because na so so cry I dey cry yesterday.🥹😭 There are so many messages on my WhatsApp that I’m still trying to respond to. My email is full, comments everywhere on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram… and I’m just thinking, “Who is going to respond to all of these kini” but I’ll respond with time. I just want to say thank you. Thank you very much, everyone. I’m truly grateful. What stood out to me most is that it wasn’t just about “Divine, you’re beautiful” or “Happy birthday Divine.” It was deeper than that. It was more like: “Thank you for the impact. Thank you for what you’re doing.” And that meant so much to me. I cried a lot yesterday. I laughed a lot yesterday. I received so many messages. People made surprise videos for me. People sent gifts and money. People also sent emails. A friend even came visiting and planned a surprise for me. Janet Akolade and Dorcas Nwaeke brought food, cake, and wine. My siblings also gave me a lot of gifts. My younger sister who earns 10k every month gave me 1,000 and sweets, I’m like inside this your small money you’re still giving me these things.🥹 Thank you so much to everyone who made this a success. I am deeply grateful. See you again next year by God’s grace. It’s a new year and it’s time to work! Ahead,ahead!✊🏽✨

The older I get, the less impressed I am by accomplishments and the more amazed I am by grace. The truth is, when all is said and done, there are some things hard work cannot explain. There are doors that open, opportunities that come, moments you experience, and miracles you witness that remind you there is a God in heaven actively involved in the affairs of men. You can prepare. You can pray. You can work. You can do everything within your power. But when certain things happen, you know. The hand of God was there. As I reflect on another year of life, I find myself in awe of God’s undiluted mercy, grace, and favor. If I had written the script of my life, it would not be this good. I’m quickly put off by women who have negative views about men even if those views aren’t directed at my husband, my father or my son and brothers. There’s something about that kind of mindset that just doesn’t sit right with me.
