💲 People don't realize how crazy expensive games used to be in the '90s! 💿 The Loom CD-ROM talkie version cost $99.95 at release! 💵 That's $240 when adjusted for inflation! When was the last time you paid $240 for a game?

@vashikoo @agraphafx I composited the parody shot from the opening of Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. Real helicopter plate pushing in on a stuntman climber in Ace outfit. Did a handoff head replacement with Carrey on a cliff set piece. A LOT of hand tracking, paint, and warping.

This shot from Cliffhanger. An enormous matte painting by Michelle Moen, put together with the revised COMPSY setup from Doug Trumbull. It was turned into a motion control matte camera like ILM had. This also represents one of the first examples of digital tracking. The resolution of the plate did not hold up in the final comp, so Jim Rygiel and team invented a 2D tracking solution, and attached it to the composite digitally at the front of the shot. Snow was a 3d particle system using the 3D tracking system they built as well. #VFXarchaeology

Agency + Culture > Skills? לפני שנה, @shilomagen, הVP R&D של Riverside, עצבן את הטוויטר כשכתב ״ממתי בהייטק נהיה אסור לדבר על לעבוד קשה? כל פעם שמדברים על להישאר עד 18 במשרד צריך ללכת על ביצים? מוכרים וורק לייף באלאנס לפני שמוכרים טכנולוגיה?? פאק דיס שיט בריברסייד עובדים קשה ואני אוהב את זה רוצים לבוא לעבוד קשה, להיות מתוגמלים בהתאם ולהתפוצץ טכנולוגית? בואו״ לא מזמן הוא חגג שנה בחברה וכתב פה על המהפכים שעשה בארגון לא בזכות הAI אלא בדיוק בגלל שהצליח לגייס כאלה אנשים. אז במקום לצעוק עליו שהוא "toxic", תפסתי אותו לשיחה על מה השינויים הטכניים שעשו אבל גם על המילים Culture (שעושה לי אלרגיה), ו Agency ולמה זה קריטי בעולם התוכנה. והכי חשוב - האם הוא באמת עדיין חושב כמו שחשב לפני שנה :) הצצה קטנה לשיחה שלנו, לינק לפרק המלאה בתגובה למטה :)
