The Left needs to unite against fascism Picking at each others positions and arguing amongst ourselves misses the bigger point: We are fighting against a manufactured fascism that threatens all our freedoms My new article for my newsletter open.substack.com/pub/danielgoya…

Farage has one of the highest disapproval ratings of all politicians Over 70% of the electorate are not voting for Reform Yet, we all may have to live under the warped ideology of a hard right conservatism That’s not democracy Time for Proportional Representation

@danielgoyal @EDI_Airport @FionaHyslop The UK Gov sold off BAA in 2006. Ferrovial owned 6 of them until were made to sell of their Monopoly. The car parks are private-like they did in NHS hospitals!

In this experiment, turning off internet on your phone was equivalent in attention gains as reversing 10 yrs of brain aging, and had the same anti-depressant effect as antidepressants or CBT. We all knew it, but wow!

In adults, limiting smartphone functionality to texting and calls and blocking all social media and mobile internet for 2 weeks significantly improved attention, self-reported well-being and mental health. 90% of participants experienced a benefit.

@SocialistHB @DrRosena Fully agree. He won’t. Politicians don’t like doctors talking about healthcare - how do they compete with real life experience. But as you say, if he had any sense he would ask her!

If Labour want voters to trust them with the NHS: - pledge to wind down private contracts - increase NHS capacity - more beds and more staff - fund primary care properly - commit to pay restoration for all NHS and Social care staff No more backhanded privatisation!

@VoltairesSpirit Exactly. Would have been good to properly use private sector during acute COVID pandemic to continue elective work. They got paid and still kept their work at a minimum.

The NHS argument is too often conducted as if the choice were between Soviet nostalgia and American barbarism. This is convenient nonsense. There is a perfectly serious case for using spare private capacity in an emergency. If a patient has waited in pain for months and an operating theatre exists down the road, only a fanatic would prefer purity to treatment. The sick person does not owe the left a symbolic martyrdom. But that concession cannot become the racket. The danger is not that the NHS buys help at the margin. The danger is that permanent failure is then used to justify permanent outsourcing, until the public system is reduced to a brand, a logo, a waiting room, and a moral alibi for the very people hollowing it out. Capacity is the word that matters. Beds. Staff. Primary care. Social care. Pay. Training. Retention. The unglamorous architecture of a health service. A civic NHS is not protected by chanting “public good” while nurses leave, GPs drown, and wards run on exhaustion. Nor is it saved by handing the backlog to companies whose business model depends on the public system remaining inadequate. Use private capacity only as a bridge. Then build the public road.

Good morning, we are still out here. It’s now been four weeks since the flotilla departed from Barcelona (I finally slept well). I will go to the end, whatever that entails.
