I fight for more freedom and less government (sorry to be redundant).

The fact is that Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay were historically more developed than the rest of Latin America, forming the "South Cone." This region was relatively well developed, competing with the US for European immigrants. However, after many crises and macroeconomic underperformance, the South Cone had largely converged with Latin America by the late 20th century. But Chile and Uruguay have mostly recovered over the past ca. 40 years and are now categorized as high-income economies again. I expect that Argentina might recover in the near future as well.

Argentina can borrow in dollars until October 2027 at about 5.02% annual yield. To borrow just one year longer, until October 2028, investors demanded 8.5%. Why the difference? Argentina has a presidential election in 2027. . In plain English: investors are much more confident Argentina will pay while Milei is in office than they are after a possible Peronist/Kirchnerist return. Tip: Don’t elect people the bond market thinks are less likely to pay their debts. They're not going to do good things for your country.

You've GOT to be kidding. With fraud running rampant, DHS handed out bonuses to the staff in charge.

The federal gasoline tax was introduced to build the interstate highway system That system is now built We should now repeal the federal gasoline tax and let each state maintain its portion of the interstate highway system—with its own revenue—as was the plan from the beginning
