@signulll in classic instagram tradition this is a complete ripoff of Snapchat…even down to the name which is as shameless as it gets lol

when tinder launched tinder gold (one of the most successful subscriptions of all time cuz it was pretty much ~100% margin) there was one psychological trick that worked incredibly well… you just show ppl who liked you but blur them out. in order to reveal them, you need to subscribe. the human mind cannot handle this type emotional uncertainty, so the subscription which was expensive af to boot became more lucrative than netflix cuz they had zero supply side costs. instagram plus is now effectively trying to create the same psychological dynamics, including private story views, & pushing your story up etc. incredibly interesting.

Flying under the radar how much the Codex app improved over the last month or so. This would be a really good time for OpenAI to drop their Mythos level model.

Contrary to popular belief, the thing people need to understand about Evan is that his whole career he's been told that he was wrong. When he presented early concepts of Snapchat to his college classmates they called it a "terrible idea". He's been wrong a ton but also early and right when it mattered.

@danielrakh Totally fair. Hardware is hard but disassociating from the brand might even be a harder thing to pull off. Either way, respect the ambition!

$SNAP is the best brand in the world when you’re 16… and the worst brand to be associated with once you’re over 21. The people who actually buy $2,000+ AI glasses aren’t teenagers. So you’re basically selling an expensive adult product under a brand everyone associates with teens sexting.

@internetkid I can’t speak for the Specs team but if i had to guess the strategy is to give it its own identity not tied to preexisting associations.
