Books I'm about to order: - Financial Shenanigans; how to detect fraud in financial statements. - Principles of Geology, Lyell; suspect it shaped modern geology. How the earth got to current state. - Titan, bio of Rockefeller; heard wonders. - Born to be Wired; bio of John Malone. - Invested; autobio of Charles Schwab. - Faraday, Maxwell, and the Electromagnetic Field; I think Munger recommended. - Six Easy Pieces; Some of Feynman's lectures on physics. - A Philosophical Essay on Probabilities; I want to be more rigorous in my "use" of statistics and want to read the French Newton. - How to Make a Few Billion Dollars; Brad Jacobs' autobio ? - Who: The A Method for Hiring; suspect good ideas here.

@EdgarVisi Point being that Robotics at scale seems like more of a industrialization / manufacturing problem than strictly a tech-problem. And I'm not holding my breath for Europe spinning up enormous amounts of heavy-industry capacity over the coming years...

@EdgarVisi Critical inputs to robotics from minerals to processing to scale productions seems to be completely dominated by China. If they out-produce and out-deploy robots by 10,000 - to-1 relative to Europe, its hard to see how anything we dohere matters, no?

Europe has all the pieces to become a serious robotics hub. ETH, EPFL, TU Munich, UPC in Barcelona, top universities pushing students to build. centuries of industrial heritage to control the value chain. we lead in automotive, and robotics rhymes with that more than people think. seeing wildly ambitious projects coming out already. the next 5 years are going to be something else.

@__paleologo Reminds me of that anecdote from Bell Labs, where a study revealed that the most productive group often shared breakfast/lunch with Harry Nyquist. Supposedly made a point out of meeting stranger / random folks at the lab

A minor lesson I learned. Hudson River Trading has large cafeterias in all of its centers. And an abnormal amount of communal spaces (alcoves, booths, meeting room). You sit for lunch and talk to strangers or old friends. I estimate that premier real estate space (and the chef-served lunches) to cost $20-30m/yr. It is a 100x return/yr. Eating together is how you get people to lower their defenses, talk, trust others, collaborate, create alliances since the Pleistocene. And the lesson is that you can win at technology by going back to very simplest, ancestral things.

Sharing 8+ meals a week with people has the same happiness boost as DOUBLING your income. And yet we eat alone 53% more than we did 20 years ago.

Geez louise. I just read the most comprehensive OpenAI deep dive I've ever seen in one place. 33K+ words on the entire company. Dropping next week. Who wants a sneak peak? HMU.

friend had coffee with a London-based VC they were ending and the VC pulled out phone to check the maps app or smt friend saw the VC had Granola on for the whole meeting is it wrong to think that this feels like a low-key violation for a "casual IN-PERSON catch-up" esp. if you don't tell in advance 😭
