Last year I hit President's Club in medical device sales (top 10% of reps in the company). That same year I scaled my cleaning company to 500K ARR. This year I'm co-founder of a SaaS startup we just launched in the sports betting + prediction market space. I'm Dan. I post about sales, building, and owning things. Here's the full picture. 🧵

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗲𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 tonight, 8:30 PM ET. Lakers at Thunder, Game 1. a 4-point spread on a heavy favorite, with LeBron James limping in on one good ankle and Luka still questionable. quick reminder, while you’re watching: earlier this year the Governor of Utah told the Chairman of the federal Commodities Futures Trading Commission, on the official internet, that he doesn’t remember the CFTC having authority over “the derivative market of LeBron James rebounds." tonight that derivative market is open. you can trade on it. while Cox and Selig argue in courtrooms, the rest of us are watching the spread move in real time. Follow @thestreetspread if you want great takes and better bets. We catch these in real time so you don't have to.

Curious to my SMBs out there… When did you hire a 2nd sales VA? How many leads / day are you getting? I’m seeing some consistency with days >15-20 leads/day, think it’s time but don’t want to make my main sales VA be too comfortable

First day of VA training was today. VA was 2 hours late and said “needed to bring mom to ER”. I don’t buy it, but whatever. She finally gets home and we do training for a couple of hours because I had to go. Once I had to leave I left her with some loom video SOP’s for her to watch. Couple hours pass, she still hasn’t watched the videos. So I send her a text asking what she thinks of the videos. She says “I think they’re great they’re helping me know exactly how you do your daily tasks”. She hasn’t watched the videos. She lied to my face. 2 mins after sending that text, she starts watching the videos. Fired? Thin ice? What are our opinions

@gowithquo a feature we'd benefit from a lot for organization/priority would be either 1) a folder structure in our inbox (ex. if I could have all cleaner chats in one folder and clients in another etc.) 2) Or a way to pin up to 3 convos or mark them as priority

rich strike got into the 2022 Kentucky Derby as a last-minute scratch replacement and won the second-biggest upset in Derby history. only Donerail (91-1, 1913) ever paid more. 80-1. chills every time. 🌹🌹

your annual reminder that the Kentucky Derby is the only sporting event where the betting strategy is “i like the name”… and it might outperform DraftKings’ algorithm. in the spirit of the most famous two minutes in sports, our horse today is Emerging Market. just two prior starts, no horse has won the Derby with that few since Leonatus in 1883. history says no. Chad Brown says yes. we’re with Chad. enjoy race day 🌹 follow @thestreetspread for more

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝗯 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘅 Kalshi - Nicolás Maduro is still head of state of Venezuela on December 2026: 61%. Polymarket/Kalshi - Donald Trump is out of office before 2027: 14%. this is not a bit. these are the live numbers. and the part anyone actually in this trade already knows: Maduro has been climbing. the gap between him and Trump has closed by over 40% in the last two weeks. let that sit. Nicolás Maduro, currently in a federal cell at MDC Brooklyn awaiting trial on narco-terrorism charges, is now only 23 percentage points behind the sitting president of the United States in job security through 2026. Maduro has the U.S. military that captured him, the DOJ that’s prosecuting him, the IMF, and half of South America actively trying to keep him out. Trump has a Republican Senate and a 6-3 Supreme Court. that’s the whole gap. somewhere a CIA analyst is reading this and updating his resume. somewhere Maduro is in Sunset Park calling someone collect and the market is pricing it as a bullish signal. somewhere a Polymarket whale just realized authoritarianism has better unit economics than democracy, even from a cell. the only growth industry left is incumbency. the only safe trade is staying in the building, even when the building is MDC Brooklyn. @thestreetspread catches these in real time. follow if you like great takes and better bets (or watching other people make bad ones).

Yesterday and today totaling about 8K in revenue and 25 cleans (4 airbnbs on another platform).. Starting May with over 50K on the books and we will do our best to hit 83.3K (the magical number my brain is stuck on now..) We've seen significant churn this month (long term clients cancelling mainly due to financial reasons or moving) so everyone on the team is motivated to close calls and not let any leads drop off without 4-6 followups..the new VA is also trained up now so focus is to bring up our close rate back to its usual high's.. Having bonuses tied not just to the individual close rate but also our total revenue has really brought the team together on high level progress over just individual success. I like to look even farther ahead and wonder what December 2026 would look like🙂 Any guesses?

The Markets Have Spoken and They Are High Kalshi: FDA approves a psychedelic for medical use in 2026: 43%. Polymarket: Bitcoin outperforms gold in 2026: 37%. read that again. prediction markets think you are more likely to legally take mushrooms under a doctor’s supervision next year than you are to make money holding the most-talked-about asset of the decade. Bitcoin, which has three ETFs, a sitting president who shills it, and an entire conference circuit of guys in Patagonia vests, is currently a worse bet on Polymarket than the federal government legalizing acid. Peter Schiff is being vindicated by the DEA. Michael Saylor is somewhere in front of his Bloomberg terminal staking a public company’s treasury on something the market trusts less than a mushroom trial in Phase III. somewhere a guy at the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies is the smartest trader in America. the 2026 macro thesis is tune in, drop out, sell BTC. Follow @thestreetspread if you like great takes and better bets (or watching other people make bad ones).

Hiring my second field employee is a completely different challenge than the first. The first hire was hard because I had never managed anyone and I was essentially figuring it out as I went. This time, I’m introducing a new layer of complexity. It isn't just about my relationship with the employee anymore. It is about the relationship between the two of them. My first operator has been great, and I have to be extremely careful about the dynamic I’m bringing into the mix. I want to reward my current guy for his hard work. If I bring in someone with way more experience just to put them in a managerial position over him, I risk killing the rapport and culture we’ve built. I’m looking for a very specific sweet spot. I need someone with enough seat time to be solo on a job site and handle customers, but they have to fit the culture that has started to form in the field. The hiring funnel has been busy. I’ve had 70+ applications so far, which led to 15 phone interviews. I’ve done 3 working interviews where I get them in the seat for an hour to see how they actually handle the machine. I’ll probably do another 8 working interviews before I make a final selection. Expediency matters because I am pushing hard for that $1M revenue goal, but a bad hire costs way more time and money in the long run than no hire. The process has been mostly seamless. I highly recommend using Facebook ads for hiring. As we move toward expanding into residential tree service, I’m realizing that solid labor is the ultimate bottleneck. Employee acquisition as a core skill is becoming just as important as customer acquisition. I would rather take the extra week now to find the right fit than spend three months fixing the mistake of a rushed hire.
