The integration of tactile controls and analogue modules is a good example of an "interface premium", and perhaps of a greater shift in how we perceive and value interface design. The interface is not functionally necessary, but beautiful and engaging. It becomes a display of art and craft. We value it for what it is and how it makes us feel. Interfaces are now being reduced to command lines or screenless devices. While most strive for "minimal viable interfaces", others will use interfaces as experiential premiums on top of their products. Investing in developing interfaces with such a meticulous attention to detail seems irrational to some. The incremental cost of greatness has never been higher. Interfaces can be abstracted or generated in one-click. What this perspective misses is that the return on greatness is exponential, and uncapped. There is no objective value assigned to beautiful things. Products that are beautiful can justify their own premium specifically for that reason. Paradoxically, investing in intangibles may yield the most tangible returns. Moreover, as the pursuit of greatness becomes harder to justify, it also becomes more scarce. What is scarce tends to be more valuable. This is not an argument to support the persistence of all visual and tactile interfaces. Most interfaces erode experience. These can and should be abstracted. That being said, for those who have elevated standards for aesthetics, an innate sense of coherence, and a differentiated vision on how to create functionally beautiful interfaces - your interface can be your premium. Our Big Game spot isn’t about showing off products. It’s about helping people visualize a future where premium, preventive care is not hidden behind wealth or insider knowledge. Where access to information, testing, and early intervention is a baseline, not a privilege. At Hims & Hers, we believe we only succeed when our customers do. To our customers (both future and current): I have always believed that in order to change something, you have to be willing to have a tough conversation. We’ve done that as a company since we launched in 2017 because we know progress requires honesty before it provides hope. Our latest ad, which will air at the big game next weekend, is meant to provoke a long overdue tough conversation. It’s meant to recognize that you deserve better. No one should be satisfied with a system that requires you to get sick before you’re allowed to get healthy. This isn’t about advertising any one specific treatment. This is about speaking directly to you about the future we know all Americans deserve, whether you live in a rural community, a big city, or somewhere in between. This is about being a loud, unapologetic advocate for what we know care can and should look like for everyone in this country: affordable, proactive, and built to empower the individual. In order for health outcomes in the US to really improve, we have to stop gatekeeping innovative, proactive tools and care. Real, lasting health requires having access to transparent information *and* innovation that can help prevent - not just treat - disease. Meaningful change requires two things: the conviction to reimagine a better way and the stamina to make it a reality. My promise to all of you is that I’ll make sure Hims & Hers always has both. Let’s close the health gap.
