@dankkonata Yeah it should have come plenty sharp, if its not that maybe it's technique, I know a Lotta people will slice like you're trimming meat or something instead of curling your fingers when they start out

Theres something funny to me when people are surprised I can do art different then what I mostly make. Not only do most artists have a larger rage then you'd expect, but for me in particular id like to remind you I started out carving realistic fish and birds out of wood

@greatmothsucks yeah it was basswood and a flexcut knife. i read those come sharpened but I didn't actually buy a sharpener for it so maybe that's the problem? thanks for the help though!

@dankkonata Seems like a dull knife or way too hard a wood, basswood or cottonwood bark are what id recommend starting with but it shouldn't take too much force. Id recommend probably a decent size flexcut knife and like a set of 4 gouges, a thumbnail (slight curve and wide) a V, a U and a C

i was mostly having difficulty with roughing but even for fine details I was having trouble
