I find it really amusing that people think I am critical of age gap relationships because I’m jealous. I have almost exclusively dated men 15-20 years older than myself. I’m not denying love exists and it can be wonderful. I AM saying the social pressure and life experience and even different social worlds can be incredibly isolating. Sure, you don’t care if your friends stop inviting you to events and parties because they don’t want “an old guy” around. But how will you feel when ALL of his friends instantly label you a gold digger or a child and exclude you? Because that happens, girls.

@MadelaineLucyH I agree, I think it works best if you are On the same page about it being only friends. My longest uninterrupted friendships are with my Uni housemates, friends for 45 years, two women and two men.

I believe men and women can be friends. Are there sometimes uneven feelings? Yes. Uneven sexual attraction? Yes. Unrequited love? Yes. But there’s a point you settle into “oh that’s Debbie/Mark, we go to book club together”

There’s actually a lot of reasons why a man would be just friends with a woman and “keep her around” without sexual intent. - she’s got a good insight on his personality/interests - she has valuable contributions to make on his hobbies/experiences - he respects her acumen and analysis on things - she is supportive and kind when he’s struggling - she helps him understand a female perspective on things If you don’t have female friends, you won’t understand this
