BREAKING: CBN launches NOFR benchmark, adopts new overnight rate for markets
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced the Nigerian Overnight Financing Rate (NOFR), a new benchmark interest rate aimed at improving transparency, deepening the money market, and strengthening monetary policy effectiveness.
The apex bank announced the development in collaboration with the Financial Markets Dealers Association, describing it as a key reform to align Nigeria’s financial system with global standards for short-term interest rate benchmarks.
In a statement signed by Hakama Sidi Ali, the CBN said the new rate is expected to enhance price discovery and promote transparency in the pricing of money market instruments.

Imagine you work in a company where you earn ₦75,000 monthly.
You have a wife. Two kids. Responsibilities everywhere.
Every month is survival mode.
Then one day, a new CEO comes in.
He reviews the system, blocks leakages, fixes what was broken and suddenly, the company starts making more money.
Next thing, he announces:
Your salary is increased five times.
On top of that, new welfare packages are introduced:
Your children’s school fees are supported
You get healthcare access
Food support is added
For the first time, life feels a bit easier.
Now here’s where it gets interesting…
You have a friend in another company—
he earns ₦1m, even more.
That friend represents somewhere like Lagos State a place that has always had higher revenue, stronger systems, and more internally generated income.
Now, compared to him, you’re still not there yet.
But pause for a second
Would you say nothing has changed in your life?
Would you reject your own progress simply because Lagos is still ahead?
This is where many people miss the point.
Because this is not just a story.
This is Nigeria from my perspective.
The new CEO represents the President.
The salary increase represents increased allocations to state governments.
The welfare package represents what is going to local governments.
So yes Lagos may still be ahead.
But that does not cancel the fact that more resources are now coming in across the board.
Which brings us to the real issue:
If more money is coming in…
Why are people not feeling it?
If your salary increased and your life is still hard…
If welfare was introduced and nothing has changed…
Then maybe the problem is not the CEO.
Maybe the problem is what is happening at your own level.
Hold your governors accountable.
Hold your local governments accountable.
Because Lagos didn’t become Lagos by excuses
it became Lagos by structure, systems, and responsibility.
And progress is not about who is ahead of you.
It’s about whether your own situation is improving.
WHO IS YOUR GOVERNOR
WHO IS YOUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMAN

This hediot called Bashir wants to divert attention 🤣🤣🤣🤣 but we won’t be distracted. We remain focused on the corrupt privatization process under the leadership of the world renowned corrupt politician as opined by his boss. Yes, OBJ said Atiku is corrupt and that God won’t forgive him, if he (OBJ) supports a criminal like Atiku.
You were a baby when Atiku started to steal our common patrimony.
God will punish you all 🙏🏾

This is coming from individuals like you praising the most useless coastal road project in Nigerian history. Hilarious
OPEOLUWA 😎😎@OpeBee
Atiku’s history with privatization is to unkind and unforgiving that it’s impossible to defend it. Very impossible. Beyond the fact that the entities were sold for ridiculous amount, they are all enmeshed in protracted legal hurdles to even consider them attractive for development.

In a bid to find a solution to the threat by the airlines to suspend flights next week over the 300 percent increase in JET A1 fuel, late yesterday, I sent the Airline Operators of Nigeria the following letter:
“Thursday, April 16, 2026.
The President
Airline Operators of Nigeria
Lagos, Nigeria
Dear Sir,
THREE HUNDRED PERCENT INCREASE IN JET A1 FUEL: APPEAL FOR RESTRAINT ON AIRFARE ADJUSTMENT AND SUSPENSION OF OPERATIONS
I write in reference to your correspondence dated April 14, 2026, concerning the operational challenges currently confronting your member airlines, especially the sudden hike in Jet A1 fuel from N900 per liter as at February 28, 2026 to N3.300 per liter as at today, representing a three hundred percent (300 %) increase.
At the outset, I wish to commend the resilience, professionalism, and steadfast commitment of your members in sustaining air transport services under evidently difficult conditions.
Let me reiterate that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu accords the aviation sector the highest strategic importance. In line with the provisions of the Civil Aviation Act, 2022, the sector remains a critical national asset essential to trade facilitation, national security, employment generation, and overall economic integration. You will also acknowledge that the Government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has initiated unprecedented reforms in the sector aimed at supporting the growth and sustenance of the businesses of local operators.
In light of the foregoing, I am making the following appeals:
1. First, I urge your members to exercise restraint with respect to any proposed increase in airfares at this time. While the prevailing cost pressures on your operations are fully acknowledged, any immediate upward adjustment in ticket prices would impose significant hardship on the travelling public, potentially depress demand, and limit accessibility to air transport for a broad segment of Nigerians.
2. Secondly, I appeal for the reconsideration of any planned suspension of flight operations. Such action would have far-reaching adverse implications for the national economy, disrupt critical mobility and logistics networks, erode public confidence, and undermine the progress recorded under the ongoing reforms within the aviation sector.
3. I wish to formally assure you that the concerns raised by your members have received the full attention of the Federal Government and we shall take immediate steps to address the issues.
Accordingly, a high-level emergency stakeholders’ meeting has been scheduled to hold on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026 in Abuja, bringing together all relevant stakeholders and regulatory authorities with a view to achieving a prompt, practical, and sustainable resolution. The venue and time will be communicated in due course.
With highest regards,
Yours most trusted,
Festus Keyamo, SAN, CON, FNIA, FCIArb (UK)
Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development”

The man who saved Nigeria from bankruptcy and who understands the path to the nation’s prosperity, the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (@officialABAT), GCFR.
MAY GOD BLESS OUR UNION, JUST AS HE HAS BLESSED NIGERIA WITH THE BEST MAN FOR THE JOB AS PRESIDENT.

We have received a new set of 24-car trains to strengthen the Lagos Red Line fleet. This will improve capacity, reduce wait times and make daily commuting easier for Lagosians. We remain focused on building a transport system that is efficient and reliable for everyone. That is still our goal.

"May 2023 when you assumed office, the total money available for the Federation was 711bn. By September 2025, it was 3.6tn. That is 400% above what you inherited. You can see from the commissioning we’ve done in the states, they will all allude to the fact that you’ve given them what no government in the history of Nigeria has given to them."

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has launched a fresh attack on former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, describing him as a “serial contestant and loser” who, according to him, relies on contesting elections to remain politically relevant.
Speaking during an inspection of road projects in Abuja, Wike said Atiku’s criticism of the current administration lacked credibility.
“Atiku is a serial failure. He is a serial contestant and loser, and I am sure that in 2031, he will still contest,” Wike said, adding that Nigerians would not take such comments seriously.
The minister argued that Atiku’s political survival depends on repeatedly running for office, insisting that his track record does not support his claims about governance.
Wike challenged the former vice-president to compare the current state of the Federal Capital Territory with what it was during his time in office, saying the difference is clear.
He maintained that his administration would remain focused on delivering infrastructure and improving the capital city, despite political distractions.

Atiku is a failed privatization agent and a serial loser ✅ Permit me to ignore what OBJ tagged him 🤷🏾
