@wanorazriq Yes, the effort should be to acknowledge history and not glorify it, but also to avoid setting one unchangeable identity in stone. I feel we might be too close to the unfolding of Malaysian literature to define it properly.

@danochow Thank you Daniel. I think retracing history and identity by going back before Merdeka will have its own problem as we have seen each social group desperately trying to glorify the legacy of their distant ancient ancestors.

Great session. It is apparent we need not stress about defining a Malaysian literature, as our historicities and cultures stretch farther back than the 65 years since Merdeka. Good writing should allow space for reimagining the nation state and its people.
