As @JayBilas correctly points out, there’s a lot of hypocrisy in college athletics right now. It’s only when athletes begin to get paid that it’s necessary to have a federal law to “save college sports.”

@ZachSchumaker I think this expansion just means that about 20% of D1 teams make the tournament, which is essentially the same percentage as 1990.

This is a blatant cash grab. Expanding the field to create a 24-team opening round does not reward great basketball; it rewards average teams from big markets just so the networks can sell more ads. They are sacrificing the integrity of the greatest postseason in sports purely for financial gain. A genuinely terrible move for the future of college basketball.
Sports Business Journal@SBJ

NCAA leadership is expected to finalize an expansion of the men’s and women’s tournaments to 76 teams soon after this year’s tournament 🏀 The proposal would add eight games to the First Four, with 24 teams playing in an opening round before advancing into the main bracket. @DanWetzel Since he got a new contract, can’t we assume his current team knew he was talking with UNC?

@SethDavisHoops I don’t care that Duke lost, or that UConn won. But, if that action isn’t seen as disrespectful by that ref, then that ref and that coach are too close for that ref to be involved in that game.

Hoping this is the last time it needs to be addressed, but there seems to be confusion as to what the rules are regarding contact between a coach and official. Many seem to assume that any contact between a coach and official by rule must result in a technical. This is not true. This is what's in the rulebook, specifically rule 10.2.h which says an unsporting Class A technical should be assessed to a coach or player who "disrespectfully contacts an official or makes a threat of physical intimidation or harm to include pushing, shoving, spitting, or attempting to make physical contact with an official." The phrases "disrespectfully" and "physical intimidation or harm" are by definition subjective. So it's up to the official in that situation to decide whether he is being disrespected or intimidated. The ref in this situation did not believe he was. Seeing as how the "contact" came right after Mullins' game winning shot, it's reasonable to interpret that Hurley was pumped about the shot and not trying to intimidate or threaten the official. That is my interpretation as well. Reasonable (and especially unreasonable lol) minds can differ, but to assert that the referee did not follow the rules in this situation is factually inaccurate. Thank you for you attention to this matter.

@z_bergeron @4JoshReed Child actors are very clearly a) professional and b) protected by special rules governing their employment. College athletes are either professional or amateur, because they’ve always been adults.

@4JoshReed Coddle? You are assigning money as the line in the sand to how someone should or shouldn’t be treated. Child actors making a fortune … no media obligation to treat them differently? “Couldn’t wait until a high paid young man fails so I can tweet some self important bullshit.”

I’ve been waiting and watching for a storyline like Cayden Boozer. Here we are, Boozer, 18-years-old, hasn’t even Iived life and has to navigate a very tough failure. Other side of the coin— quick search— Boozer did a $750K NIL and that is what we call adult money. College athletes want paid and deserve it but it’s not the media’s job to protect them now. I cringe when I read the praise for Boozer taking questions after the loss. He should, he’s a highly paid athlete.

@HighwayVoices @yourpalhalsays @LupusBeowulf I mean, at that point all the things he said in his NCSU intro presser seemed true. Then, later, the team collapsed, he threw the players under the bus, and, quite possibly, bought a house in Louisiana with over a month left in the season….and lied to the AD about his plans.

@statefansnation Carolina is finally deciding to hire not from within the UNC family. For those exact reasons. Loyalty is great, but a failure is much much much more painful. To all parties. It’s also a lot of added unique pressure.

I know that everyone thinks that all the love for Justin Gainey is powerful and should move Boo Corrigan to make a decision. And also know they've never thought about the other side of this coin -- What happens in these situations when someone doesn't succeed? Even worse, what happens in these situations when someone only succeeds in a middling fashion? When dealing with alums, now you're dealing with a massive headache because there will always be people that support the alum no matter what, regardless of what the right decision could be. Heck, just look at Hubert right down the street. Not sure if I'm an AD that I'm dying to put myself in that position through the years. So, not sure that all the public pressure to push Boo ends up having the effect that people think it will.

I absolutely love Rick Barnes. He's one of my favorite coaches of all time. If Rick wanted any impact on our coaching position then he should have taken our job at one point over the last thirty years.

Rick Barnes says NC State should hire Gainey: “There is nobody that loves NC State more than Justin Gainey.” Check out all his quotes and learn the history between the Hall of Fame coach and his NC State protege👇 packinsider.com/2026/03/28/ric…

@bstrand11111 @PackInsider Two things are true: 1) Your analogy says “girlfriend”. The contract is more like “wife”. 2) Nobody is suing anybody. It’s a guy with a law degree pointing out how much of a disingenuous punk WW was because he had some time.

@iam_johnw Isn’t this logic backwards? If there’s very little time left then there’s less time for a pump fake, so you should be more likely to react to the opponent’s initial movement.

@GeauxTeamPod @Rgreener77 @coreyzinho @RCorySmith I think it’s asking a lot of the guy that had to deal with the fallout from Wade’s first stint in BR to enthusiastically welcome him back. But if I was a fan I would have wanted the coach gone last year.

@danofnc @Rgreener77 @coreyzinho @RCorySmith Hey, I’ve got an idea how we can find common ground. If our shitty previous AD would have just put his ego aside last year, LSU and NC State both wouldn’t have had to waste the last season like we both ended up doing. Picture of Fat Scott below

One additional note on LSU hiring Will Wade: According to a source in Baton Rouge, Matt McMahon and his staff were not informed of his firing from the administration until Wade was on a plane. It was widely reported, but there was never a formal announcement from LSU.

Reports in Baton Rouge say he was unofficially notified a couple of days ago but LSU was trying to keep it quiet until April 1st which was the date Wade’s buyout dropped by $2 million. The same reports in BR said NC State caught wind and started leaking the entire thing in order to force a decision from Wade and LSU. Personally I think it was a good play by NC State to force LSU to pay more.

@GeauxTeamPod @Rgreener77 @coreyzinho @RCorySmith Also disingenuous. The portal opens 4/7. If he’s staying, staying, staying, then magically gone on 4/1, which is what they tried, that’s a giant, undeserved problem for State. Just own that he’s an ass, but you don’t care because he’s yours. I never really liked him at State

I hear you. But is anyone truthful in contract and employment negotiations? As an employer myself (not trying to say that as a brag by any means, but instead just trying to use it as an example), I always assume candidates are lying to me about their current salaries. Most of the time they are. I accept it and understand that it’s in their best interest to lie to me an attempt to make a higher salary. Same thing for Wade, what is he supposed to say that LSU is a special place to him and he wants nothing more than to return there? But then if he is truthful and the LSU job doesn’t come open or LSU couldn’t afford the resources to get him back, he would have screwed himself over with his current employer.

@GeauxTeamPod @Rgreener77 @coreyzinho @RCorySmith If this has been going on for as long as some LSU people are saying, then yes, he should have been honest with State’s AD. Everyone has a job to do, and his assurances put State’s AD on a much worse spot than the truth would have. Again, disingenuous.

@GeauxTeamPod @Rgreener77 @coreyzinho @RCorySmith And no matter how much you paid the former coach, leaving him dangling like you did is a huge slap in the face. Meeting his replacement in Raleigh while he’s still technically the coach is disingenuous.

Because you don’t like Will Wade. Again, I could understand why you wouldn’t. If he was the head coach at Auburn and never coached at LSU I would hate him too. But he has always connected with the LSU fanbase so I have always liked him because he has embraced this place. Now it is even more evident since he is returning that he has been genuine with this fanbase the entire time. And in a world where most everyone is disingenuous these days, I respect the man. But again, if he was the coach at Auburn I would hate him.
