Issues matter because people matter, and issues affect people.
But this election was about more than disagreeing on issues. I disagree with Trump and Harris on certain issues.
This election was about principalities and powers - racism, patriarchy, xenophobia.
This is not just about Trump. Certainly he has unleashed some of our worst demons. But this is bigger than one man. It is about spiritual and systemic powers that seek to harm some of our most vulnerable neighbors.
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12)
This election was about what kind of country we are and what kind of country we want to be.
So today we grieve. But tomorrow we organize.
We cannot stop believing in a better world. We cannot stop dreaming, and laughing, marching, and singing.
Hard days are no doubt ahead of us… but we have each other. And we have a God who is always near to those who feel crushed, beaten down, dishonored, dehumanized.
And no matter how much our opponents hate us, we will still choose love. We cannot give them the power to make us hate.
No matter how many times they put us in jail or threaten our lives or try to deport our neighbors, we will still love them, even as we resist their bigotry.
We will wear them down with our love. Let us not forget, we are also fighting for them. We are working for the day that all of us are free from hatred and fear and the thirst for power.
When love wins, there are no losers.
We got this.
