@krembeni It wasn’t uninteresting, just lower priority. I started with Miller run and then Daredevil: Yellow I think and then worked my way through just about every other storyline. They were all enjoyable but less crucial I’d say

I'm planning to start reading Daredevil comics and I know everyone starts off with the Frank Miller run but I'm curious if there's anything to the issues beforehand to chew on or if it's an X-men situation where it was uninteresting until the iconic run that defined the character

"According to Jesus we're supposed to turn the other cheek when we're hurt, right?" "Yes. In Jesus' time, a person that backhanded your cheek was treating you as lesser. So you turn the other cheek, forcing them to strike you as an equal." "What does that have to do with immigration?" "The contention is that immigrants are allowed to treat us as lesser because they come from incompatible cultures and attack us. But we can't then tell them no, because that's 'racist'." "That seems contrary to what Jesus taught." "It is, and amazingly so. Non-Christians often seize on the idea that Jesus advocated for non-violence to tell Christians to shut up and take what's being done to them." "Are you sure that's what Jesus taught? It's not like you could ask him personally. He predates you by a millennium, right?" "Jesus makes the same point with the story of giving away your cloak, and with going the extra mile. In the latter's case, a Roman soldier could make an Israelite carry anything like a pack mule for up to a mile. It was a humiliation. But Jesus told them to carry it another mile, to treat the Roman as you would a friend, which would both shame them and force them to treat you as a person instead of a mule." "What about the cloak?" "When you're poor and living in an ancient society, your cloak is vital for getting through the cold nights. In Jesus' time, it was common to get around this by demanding the other person give you their shirt. But if you give them the cloak as well, it is a deliberate provocation: if they take the shirt and cloak, they will be shamed by the community." "And... the good samaritan?" "The point was the man who was a neighbor was not the priest or the Levite, but the one who showed mercy to his neighbor. It doesn't say 'everyone is your neighbor', in fact it states the opposite rather plainly. It's your actions that make you a neighbor, NOT your ethnicity." "So, not everyone is your neighbor?" "The neighbor shows mercy to those who have been hurt." "What does that have to do with immigration?" "Nothing. They've decided it means that you must allow immigrants to raid and attack you and treat you like garbage without retaliation of any sort. You can't even say 'stop it' without being declared racist." "Then why did he bring up Christianity at all?" "Because he's not a Christian and doesn't understand it."

Christ’s gospel was so radical, so contrary to the wisdom of the world, that people are still coping 2000 years later, insisting that he didn’t actually mean what he said.

It's because TVs aren't subsidized by the government. The reason Doritos are so expensive is because, up until recently, people on welfare could get them with SNAP, so PepsiCo could charge whatever they wanted and had no reason to care whether or not you could afford it because their primary clientele were people who were using your tax dollars to buy them. You pay more because someone else is getting it for "free", and by "free", I mean you're paying for it with your taxes. Since the government doesn't buy TVs for people (with your money), TV manufacturers have to price competitively, hence the low TV prices.
Jum@JesterJum

While the price of virtually everything else skyrockets, the price of TVs remain weirdly low. Its almost like they don't want to price people out of the ability to be distracted, manipulated, and controlled. Anyone else notice that? Or is it just me?

No I’m not “acting” like anything but they store all the data they collect and due to HDMI DRM rules, let’s say you normally use an Apple TV but your TV requires a firmware update so you temporarily connect to download the update, it’s going to phone home and send a report of everything you’ve viewed since the last time it connected along with audio it’s detected, etc etc. phones do the same thing of course, I’m not saying it’s just TVs but that data is massively valuable and TVs are basically a way to Trojan horse a constant monitoring system into homes and it’s almost certainly the reason they stay so relatively cheap despite massive gains in technology.

@Sacb0y @evolved__male @ReviewsPossum The average “non smart” TV is sub 32 inches and like 720p. You actually can’t even buy a viable non smart TV. Thats why I referenced monitors which are the closest non smart example. And if you think all they’re collecting is what you like to watch then you’re just ignorant

At this point I don't just want the Steam monopoly lawsuits to end. I want it legally mandated that Steam should be the only online videogame marketplace. I want an 11th Commandment saying "Thou shall only publish thy games using Steam"

Gabe Newell owns the majority share in Steam. Now, I know Newell somewhat. We've met. We've talked. He's not a close friend by any means. But it is by his will and genius that Steam is the way it is - a triumph of good guy capitalism. A great site for finding games, with cheap prices, frequent sales. Well ... I don't need to praise it here. You guys all know about it. When Newell passes away, it's unclear what will happen with Steam. Doubtless his shares will go to his family. Will they continue his vision? Or will they sell out to one of the many circling sharks who have been trying to buy it for years? What will happen if the sharks DO get their teeth into Steam? I believe that in that case Steam will go to hell in a handbasket. Owned by men in suits who don't give a sh*t about quality or the consumer. Probably it will become a subscription service or worse. If it gets sold to a horror show like Electronic Arts or Disney it'll be a nightmare. The only mitigating feature is that a different service might arise, but it will need to fight the rotting lumbering corpse of Steam to establish itself. I am content that since I am several years older than Gabe, it is plausible that I won't live to see this terrible day. But you might. Gabe Newell, to me, is literally barring the gates to Hell for us all.
