@UndrTheCosh I know footy isn’t much cop without emotional fans, but it really is nonsense to suggest Laurie played for AFC Wimbledon & AFC Wimbledon won the FA Cup back in 1988.

On this day in 1988, Wimbledon won the FA Cup. Lawrie Sanchez, who scored the winning goal, questions whether AFC Wimbledon are right to claim him as a club legend, given he never played for them.

@1968Tv I don’t know why but a lot of us ‘older’ ones always thought the build up started at 9.00, when quite clearly, it didn’t.

How FA Cup Final Day used to be on the BBC and ITV back in the day. A fantastic day of entertainment and build up on both channels. Grandstand with Frank Bough and David Coleman, and World Of Sport with Dickie Davies and Brian Moore. It was like Christmas Day, you waited all week with excitement no matter which teams were playing. Morning papers with the Cup Final pull-outs, early starts on the BBC & ITV, fish & chips from the chippy at dinner time, then settle down for an afternoon of build up till around 2:40pm when we would have the iconic ‘Abide With Me’. Then we would be just about ready for the teams to make the long walk out of the famous Wembley tunnel. By now the curtains/blinds would be shut and it was time for kick off in the FA Cup Final. After the final whistle, you would see your mates and try and recreate the match action/goals from what was always a fantastic day as a kid. We all know the FA Cup has lost its sparkle and been pretty much dead for years, but for many of us, who are like me 58 years old, we will always have our memories of the then greatest cup competition in the world. #FACup

@HACKETTREF Keith, you was the 4th official at the 1979 final, reffed the 1980 semi final, but now, THE BIG ONE. Can I ask, when and how did you receive notification that you would be doing the final and how did you feel?

On this day in 1981 I had the pleasure of officiating the 100th FA Cup Final and later the replay. What are your memories of that day and have you any questions that you might like to ask?

@jacekpac05 @dash71_ @GamingBlomp I think the decision for the referee is with it being such a big decision, which is more likely. Outside of people who hate us, it’s almost unanimous.

⚽️This is probably the best angle I’ve seen of Spalding Utd’s controversial 90+1 penalty v Real Bedford from Monday’s Southern League Prem Central play-off final, denying Real step 2 footy next season. Footy kindly provided by @GamingBlomp from his excellent vlog of the final.

@PeterMcCormack @GamingBlomp I was in Winslow covering their play_off, and could see it wasn’t a pen!! Seriously, refs make honest mistakes, and that was one, but the ramifications for you being denied step 2 footy are huge. Fuel to go one better next season 👍

I was the other end of the stadium and the first thing I said to my son is that the ball changed direction. Such an important decision that not only cost us promotion, but: - Cost the manager a record - Players the chance of playing higher People can hate us as much as they want but we all work so hard. It’s a very poor decision.

@UpTheWakes Can't really define a level as sustainable, but you will find clubs at most levels attempting be sustainable. We (@AFCRD) will likely post a profit for a 3rd year in a row this summer despite having no bar, no facilities to hire and spending £50k p/a on pitch hire. Stressful tho!

What’s the last properly sustainable level now in non league? Is it 5 or even 6 now?
