I don’t think the market necessarily “needs a reason” per se, but all your theses are valid. There is also this (imaged). $Msft scaling back some of its CapEx. $Meta $Avgo and a few others cancelled data center and other expansion plans. Risk off ahead of $Nvda earnings in case their guidance suggests a slowdown in the AI infrastructure buildout.

Alright so… Friday showed us that markets are a bit more fragile than we think. I’d like to crowdsource some opinions here on X: If we were to head into a prolonged selloff, what would be the reason/trigger? My simple take on last week’s selloff is as follows: 1. PMI sucked 2. Michigan consumer sentiment sucked 3. We we’re up a TON going into last week, markets needed a breather 4. $WMT Walmart earnings created fears around the consumer I hesitate to even be upset about this selloff given $SPX is barely off its highs…stocks that were up 50% YTD are now up 30% YTD and that simply isn’t troubling to me. I personally am not yet convinced that Friday’s selloff has characteristics to it that can lead to further downside, but I’m open to hearing arguments on why the economy could be weakening and that could cause stocks to take a hit. Few arguments why I think it may end up being a by the dip, again: 1. 10-yr is coming down 2. Hot CPI/PPI hasn’t been enough to take markets down 3. Earnings have been great across Q4 4. $NVDA should crush on Wednesday 5. $7T on the sidelines 6. Any weakness should hurt inflation, which is actually good 7. Any weakness can bring $DXY down, which is also good 8. Labor market is still stable, until we see signs of real unemployment, can’t say the labor market is meaningfully weakening 9. $BTC Bitcoin continues to stay above $90K and benefit as the core risk on asset as people still find value in it and aren’t selling it off yet What’s the best argument for this selloff to continue?
