I was broke, defeated and in debt, But I found a wallet worth 6m. 💰
NFTs were my gateway into web3. Here's my story 👇
Sharing it in collaboration with @MEFndn #NFTsandME.
Mid 2021, ETH was around $2000 each, I had lunch with a friend that told me to buy my first NFT, a dumb ape picture called BAYC for a few ETH.
Having made some money, I wanted more alpha. This time we met up for lunch again. But my friend was visibly stressed.
i asked him what’s wrong and he told me his other friend had minted 400 Loot (for adventurers) last night.
It was a JPEG with a black background and 8 words on it. Each were worth 1e. That play was worth 400e and the guy minted them all for FREE! 🆓
These were the rags to riches story everyone dreams of. But here's the kicker, when I got home that day, it was 2e. The next morning it was 5e, then 10e, then 18e.
This guy made 18e x 400 NFTs = 7,200e in 2 days and only paid gas to mint them. Thats 14m for just knowing what to do and taking a chance on it. 🤯
Loot's success drove a massive wave of Loot derivatives. Black background jpegs with 8 words on them. I was coping hard.
For the next 2 days I was feining in front of my computer, hunched over, buying 10-20 of every Loot derivative I could find. I was deep into the NFT rabbit hole.
Some did well, some rugged. But ultimately, I was down to my last 4e. I chanced upon a project called Loot for Treasure and for some reason, someone had posted a rarity chart for these treasures.
For the entire day, I sat and sniped every rare treasure on these NFTs that were listed near floor in hopes that I could flip them. (Floor was around 0.2e), I had spent my last 4e. I had spent my last chance at this dream of making it.
The next day, the project floor tanked and it was 0.02e. I had lost 90% of what I had invested.
Fast forward a few days later, the community miraculously stuck around the project and the founder promised to keep working on it. They had introduced staking and had plans for a migration to this little known network called Arbitrum (no one knew what it was). I was broke so I stuck around and hoped for the best.
During this time, Treasure had introduced an NFT project called Smol Brains. We had to draw a picture of a monkey with a big brain to get a WL. I had spent my last liquid dollar on this project and had nothing better to do. So i drew 7 different monkeys with large heads and acquired 7 WLs.
30 days pass and migration day arrives, I acquired 1m MAGIC tokens from staking my worthless NFTs.
I was also airdropped about 400k MAGIC worth of NFTs and 14 Smol Brain NFTs. All this combined were kinda worthless at the time. But I somehow managed to recover my investment of 4e through selling a bunch of my airdrop.
It wasnt too bad, my world was not finished. But I had gotten busy during this time and just left everything staked.
Fast forward 2 months, a project I was working on failed and I was really struggling to make ends meet. I start liquidating my crypto assets to try to find a way to pay off some debts.
Then I chanced upon my Treasure NFTs and tokens.
During this time, @garyvee had just mentioned Treasure and Smol Brains. So each MAGIC token was at its peak and worth $6 and each Smol Brain was worth 5e each. Combined with a bunch of Treasure Ecosystem NFTs. I had a portfolio of over 6m.
Having faced the darkness of having everything in my life fail and then suddenly seeing a wallet I owned have over 6m USD worth of assets. That is the beauty of NFTs.
NFTs saved my life.
But more importantly, NFTs to me represent a paradigm shift. A democratization of opportunity that anyone can make it in this world. It has become my identity and unlocked access to a world beyond my imagination.
