@brianmctaggart Man, that's terrible news. I loved watching him as a player, and then was fortunate to cover the Astros while he was managing. Gar was as real and genuine as they come. RIP.

Whit is not a strong strategic, game day coach. Utes lost quite a few games because of game/clock management.
He is a strong culture coach. But that was largely with LDS and Polynesian kids who were willing to accept discipline. Likely to be different at UM.

Texas is the perfect preview of why strong non-con games will go away. When there’s no reward for scheduling big OOC games, the incentive becomes clear — play a cupcake, stay at 10–2, and you’re a lock. Texas gonna get punished for trying.
