It is with humility and appreciation that I have accepted Damien Kurek’s offer to resign his seat in Battle River-Crowfoot so that I can work to earn the support of citizens there to serve them in Parliament.
Damien’s selfless act to step aside temporarily as a Member of Parliament shows his commitment to change and restoring Canada’s promise.
I will work to earn the trust of the good people of Battle River-Crowfoot and I will continue to hold the Liberal minority government to account until the next federal election, when we will bring real change to all Canadians.

There is no more gruelling major sports championship than the Stanley Cup, and it’s not even close.
To win the World Series, a baseball team has to play a maximum of 13 games. And… it’s baseball. In an average 9-inning game that takes 3 hours to complete the ball is only actually in play about 15-20 minutes. And even when it is, most of the players on the field are standing around — as opposed to the team that’s at bat, who are mostly sitting. Physical contact is rare and brief. So is physical exertion.
To win the Super Bowl, a football team must win a maximum of four games. Again, in a 60 minute regulation game the ball is only actually in play, studies show, for 11 minutes on average. And since players are divided into offensive and defensive teams, that means they’re only on the field for half that time. Lots of physical contact, to be sure, but lots and lots of time to recover.
Basketball is closest. To win whatever the NBA championship is called a team must win 16 games (18 for teams that enter through the Play-In Tournament). And unlike baseball and football, virtually all of regulation time in basketball is in-play time, with relatively brief stoppages. But regulation time in a basketball game is, bizarrely, only 48 minutes. And a lot of that is relatively static: more start-stop rather the continuous motion, with players standing around waiting for the ball or walking back up court. There’s some physical contact, but nothing like the sustained brutality a hockey player must endure.
To win the Stanley Cup a team must win 16 games, each of them 60 minutes full of nonstop action, with players moving at high speed most of the time and colliding with each other, the boards or the ice literally dozens of times a night. There’s nothing like it.
There’s a reason hockey invented the playoff beard. It’s the closest peacetime equivalent to war.

CBC’s Rosemary Barton exemplifies exactly why intelligent, accomplished people hesitate to run for office: even when they follow the rules—something Mark Carney has been clear about from day one—they are subjected to relentless badgering.
If Canada wants strong political leadership, we need to move past this tall poppy syndrome. We should be encouraging, not discouraging, successful private-sector leaders from stepping up to serve their country—especially in times of crisis.
For over a decade, Canada has struggled to find competent political leadership across the spectrum. Now more than ever, we need bold, unconventional leaders willing to take on the responsibility of guiding the country through these unprecedented challenges. It is hard work and it is a sacrifice. Show some respect.
Rosemary, enough already.
Jarryd Jäger@JarrydJaeger
Carney accuses the CBC's Rosemary Barton of acting with "ill will" when she says it's "very difficult to believe" he has no conflicts of interest stemming from his time in the private sector.

The bigger lesson here is how fragile democracy is, not blind allegiances…
Albertarian@Veteran4Freedom
The new thing ‘Team Canada 🇨🇦.’ The fact that Canadians can easily change allegiance to the EU (includes Germany & Italy), because of the Orange Man. While forgetting that over 100K Cdns were directly killed or wounded by German and Italian troops seems a bit unbalanced. #TDS
