SimpleX Chat can't and won't scan private chats, ever. It's not just a promise, it's a technical impossibility.

314 MEPs just voted AGAINST mass surveillance "Chat Control." Only 276 voted for it. Yet it still passed. More Members voted to kill the mass surveillance bill than to keep it and it became law anyway. This is the EU’s version of “democracy” when it comes to destroying privacy civil liberties. reclaimthenet.org/eu-brings-back…

Yesterday was a sad day for the privacy of citizens in the European Union given the extension of #ChatControl 1.0, allowing for voluntary scanning of private communications.
In light of yesterday's vote, we wanted to remind you that:
Chat Control 1.0 is different from Chat Control 2.0 in that providers (like us at Tuta) are not forced to backdoor their end-to-end encryption for surveillance.
At Tuta, if Chat Control 2.0 is passed we have two options: to move out of the EU or sue and fight it. As our CEO, Matthias Pfau has stated, we would sue and fight for people's privacy. Because for us, undermining end-to-end encryption is not an option.
We will continue to say no to #ChatControl and fight for everyone's right to privacy. ✊🏻❤️🔒

@bifrosty2k I hope so too. If they don't I will have to drastically change my life plans and even I don't know what I'll do.

The EU Commission paid €4.5M to fund our anonymous communications network. Tomorrow the European Parliament votes to outlaw it.
I sent this open letter to all 720 MEPs tonight. katzenpost.network/pages/chat-con…

The EU Parliament REJECTED Chat Control, but now they are forcing us to vote it AGAIN to revive it. What kind of democracy is this if we're forced to vote on the same issue over and over until they get the result they want?
My colleague @MarketkaG explained the situation very well in plenary👇🏻

@FaxMeAFact @ReclaimTheNetHQ What precisely is your call to action?
English

@ReclaimTheNetHQ Why is that more urgent than rooting out the epstain cult pushing for it?

The EU Parliament rejected mass scanning of private messages in March.
Yesterday, it approved an urgent procedure to revive the measure, setting up a decisive vote on Thursday, the last sitting day before summer recess.
At second reading, the text passes automatically unless 361 MEPs vote against it, and some MEPs have already left for the Summer break...

@bifrosty2k Good to hear from you, man. I'm not ready to write Europe off yet. Parliament already rejected this twice, and 304 Members voted against the fast-track on Tuesday. Tomorrow we find out if the institutions still work. That's why I sent the letter.

@david415 The EU is actively looking to harm its people and their privacy. This is a shame this is happening.

@garapdotfun xx_network is a defunct company. Perhaps you should look into Katzenpost where I work with a team of security researcher to make cutting edge mixnet privacy technology; here's my public letter to the EU Parliament regarding chatcontrol: katzenpost.network/pages/chat-con…

.@chaosupdates The EU funded our mixnet; tomorrow it votes to outlaw it. My open letter to the European Parliament cites the 800+ scientists' letter alongside the @EU_Commission's own evaluation: katzenpost.network/pages/chat-con… #ChatControl

.@netzpolitik_org Story: the EU Commission funded the Katzenpost mixnet (PANORAMIX, Horizon 2020, €4.5M). Tomorrow's #ChatControl vote outlaws it by construction. Open letter to all 720 MEPs, fully sourced: katzenpost.network/pages/chat-con…

.@mer__edith The EU paid €4.5M to seed a strong-anonymity alternative to Tor, then left it to volunteers for seven years. Tomorrow it votes on outlawing it. My open letter to the European Parliament: katzenpost.network/pages/chat-con… #ChatControl

.@MarketkaG Thank you for fighting the Rule 170 fast-track. I founded Katzenpost, the anonymous communications network the EU itself funded through PANORAMIX. Tonight I sent all 720 MEPs this letter ahead of tomorrow's #ChatControl vote: katzenpost.network/pages/chat-con…

Europe did the science. Europe wrote the cheque. Europe is now preparing to make the result illegal.
Vote to reject tomorrow, and be present: under this procedure an absent MEP counts in favour.

@EU_Commission's own evaluation of this regulation, COM(2025) 740, concedes the data cannot show the scanning is even proportionate, and records error rates up to 20%. Irish police confirmed hundreds of innocent people flagged. Their files were kept anyway. #ChatControl

2015–2019: the EU funded PANORAMIX (Horizon 2020 grant 653497) to build communications that protect metadata: who talks to whom, when, how often. That project produced Katzenpost. Our paper states it, citing the Commission's own records: arxiv.org/abs/2501.02933 #ChatControl
