It was great to be in Sanford today for the ribbon-cutting of the agricultural marketplace. This center will be transformational for downtown Sanford and it’s also on a location that has strong family ties.

It was great to be with Mezzo soprano Taylor Raven at the North Carolina Opera Gala. Last season Taylor performed in the Metropolitan Opera production of Antony and Cleopatra.

Happy to be hosted by the great folks at The Port of Virginia in Hampton Roads. A lot of Tyrrell County crops pass through this remarkable facility.

Duke University is trying to set a world’s record today by training 30,000 people in Hands Only CPR. Hands Only CPR can triple survival rate if started immediately. Rural residents particularly need this skill to jump in while an AED is readied and EMS is responding.

The Raleigh Convention and Performing Arts Centers Authority board was back on site at the Convention Center to see the progress of the extraordinary work being completed to address damage from a recent roof fire. All staff are dedicated to success, craftsmanship and efficiency.

It has been wonderful to visit with Tawny Godin, Miss America 1976. She has enjoyed a stellar broadcast career and raised a remarkable family. We happily remembered when our paths crossed for the first time 50 years ago.

Abbie Stockard, Miss America and I had a great visit today.

I truly appreciated all of the Birthday wishes yesterday. It certainly means a lot. I celebrated here at Miss America and was proud of Rita Johnson Miss North Dakota’s Teen who I judged in her state pageant and who won a preliminary talent award.

The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina provided a great tour, excellent dialogue and innovative strategies for Miss North Carolina. Amy Beros is a national voice and we are so lucky to have her talents at the FBCENC.

Sophia celebrated her forthcoming departure to compete for the title of Miss America with a lovely afternoon reception in the remarkably restored and modernized Mt. Holly Municipal Center.
