@JeffVanderstelt Seems like Jesus did a lot of this: “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.”

Of all the learning methods, lecture is the least effective (5% retention) of them all. If this is the case why do we still do so much of it in the church?

@PLeithart Abel’s sacrifice was offered in faith (Hebrews 11:4), and Cain’s was not.

Why did God regard Abel's offering and not Cain's? How could they have known? Well, from their parents: Cain's offering = fig leaves, Abel's = animal skins.

I will be at the NRB in Nashville this Wednesday and Thursday. I'm going to meet people and ministries who can benefit from Enduring Word's resources, especially in languages other than English. If you're going to be there and would like to meet up, feel free to message me.

Taking a poll, theologians and please comment with your reasoning. I’m preaching Judges 11:29-40 Sunday. Do you believe Jephthah’s daughter was a literal burnt offering because of his foolish vow? Or do you believe her fate was lifelong celibacy, not death? It is SPLIT down the middle among scholars. Really interesting.

“The rags of sin must come off if we put on the robe of Christ. There must be a taking away of the love of sin, there must be a renouncing of the practices and habits of sin, or else a man cannot be a Christian. It will be an idle attempt to try and wear religion as a sort of celestial overall over the top of old sins.” (Spurgeon)

❕From beginning to end, our lives are to be dedicated to God. Therefore, whatever we do, we do it to the Lord – because Jesus is our Lord! Dig Deeper: Read David Guzik's Romans 14 commentary on the Enduring Word app or our website! 📖 enduringword.com/bible-commenta…

👉🏻 In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus helped us to understand what this means – it means judging others according to a standard that we would not want to have applied to ourselves.

👉🏻 The young man who killed the lion and the bear, who killed Goliath, and was a successful young captain in Israel’s army, did not deny the presence of fear. There were times when he was afraid. Yet he knew what to do with that fear, to boldly proclaim His trust in God despite the fear. We can imagine an OT saint saying, "Polygamy isn't forbidden, and other nations do it. It's fine for us." If they were to say that to Jesus, He might reply: "Look to the beginning. At the beginning, it was one man and one woman. I showed you this from the beginning."

The way Jesus grounded marriage to Adam, Eve, and Eden gave clarity to something that wasn't as clear in the OT (as seen also in Eph 5:30). In theory OT saints had some excuse, but we have none such in light of Matt 19:4 and 1Tim 3:2.

Something in the "does the Bible forbid polygamy" discussion I haven't yet heard said: Jesus forbade polygamy with the phrase "at the beginning" (Matt 19:4) rooting marriage back to Adam and Eve. Adam had one wife, and that was God's plan "at the beginning."

Yesterday we posted a video I made with Dr. Lu Wing, about his latest book: "Genes of Eden: Epigenetics, Transgenerational Sin, and Addiction." I think it was an enlightening interview, and I recommend it to you. The link will be in the first comment...
