A experiment with AI removing later additions to Hazelwood House, Sligo and returning the entrance front to possibly its 1731 original symmetrical composition designed by the architect Richard Castle.

A new path has opened around Hazelwood House in Sligo with information boards which allows full enjoyment of the beauty of the entrance front of this Palladian masterpiece and the conservation works over the last few years.

Many have made contact in the last 24 hours enquiring about the plight of Templeview House in Easkey, Sligo after Storm Eowyn. More of the already diminished roof has now been lost. Templeview is a historic house at risk of collapse unless urgent remedial work is undertaken.

The distinctive timber spire of  St. Mary's Church in the village of Ruan in Co Clare has been destroyed by fire. The timber structure dating from the early 1900's crashed to the ground in flames after it was struck by lightning in the early hours of Sunday morning last.

It was an honour to be in Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim, as a memorial garden, delivered by the OPW, was unveiled to honour trainee Garda Gary Sheehan & Private Patrick Kelly, who were killed in the line of duty. The sculpture was created by Manorhamilton based sculptor Jackie McKenna

It is now 50 years this month since a fire destroyed Powerscourt Hous, Co. Wicklow in November 1974. Powerscourt was built in 1731 and was designed by the famous German architect Richard Castle, who also designed Strokestown House, Hazelwood House and Westport House.

Kevinsfort House, Sligo, built in the 1830s. Could it be the work of the architect, Francis Goodwin, who designed its gatelodge. Goodwin also worked on nearby Lissadell & Markree. However, the porch's laurel wreaths remind me of Ballyfin's gatelodge in Laois by Richard Morrison

A little bit off my usual topic, but what a memorable day and experience to see a ship sink to the seabed before our eyes. A smugglers' ship, the MV Shingle, seized by Revenue , was sunk in Killala Bay in north Mayo this afternoon (18th Sept. 2024) to become an artificial reef.
