@mattyglesias Try being an American first and argue policy merits instead of always party over country - you drive the division with blind party allegiance

If Republicans liked the anti-gerrymandering provision but not the rest of the bill they should put a bill like that on the floor. If Republicans favor a national gerrymandering bad but not the specific one Dems wrote, they should write a different one. But stop whining!
Tim Carney@TPCarney

There was no national ban on gerrymandering for Republicans to ban. There was a provision, in a much larger radical bill, that some Dems called a national ban on gerrymandering. Journalists, however, shouldn't repeat dishonest partisan messaging

just a friendly reminder that republicans have a trifecta and could pass a federal ban on gerrymandering *tomorrow* if they wanted to. but they don’t want to. they want to rig the system. and then they turn around and throw a temper tantrum when Dems fight back

Gerrymander bills increase the likelihood that a state's median voter gets to enjoy the congressional majority they prefer -- this is true in Virginia and also in Texas. The bills aren't disenfranchising, which is why they pass, and why you need a federal solution.
Foster@foster_type

@jbarro My policy has been to call all voter disenfranchisement bad.

Crazy story out of Qatar: A British couple honeymooned in Doha, where the wife was harassed at the Ritz-Carlton pool by two men who told her she'd "fall in love" after he slept with her. The hotel gaslit her, with management denying the CCTV backed her story despite their own WhatsApp messages saying the opposite. Her husband posted a TripAdvisor review calling the hotel "unsafe for women." The hotel got it pulled, then a hotel employee filed a defamation complaint against him under Qatar's cybercrime laws. Nearly a year later, when he returned to Qatar for work, he was detained, informed he'd been tried in absentia and fined, and then held for four nights in a deportation centre. The deportation order lasts five years, which severely hurts his career as a Middle East healthcare consultant. In other words, Marriott International, an American company, used Qatari law to silence a complaint about a woman being sexually harassed at their property.

Her name was Cerina. She was a mother of two. A dentist who graduated with honors. She loved to read, run trails, travel and spend time with her family. And like all too many women who become victims of domestic violence, her husband killed her. cbsnews.com/news/justin-fa…

I’m happy to report that American manufacturers sell truck chassis that are perfectly capable of all the tasks below with a wheelbase and turning radius that allows for narrower lanes, intersection bump outs and other street improvements in our cities. We just have to wean American fire departments off of their unhealthy addiction to unreliable, less-safe, oversized custom chassis from defense contractor subsidiaries. In return we get fewer injuries and deaths, they get fewer calls to accidents and we all save a lot of pain and expense.

@fortworthchris @AustinTunnell Respectfully, this approach is dumb and has no merit. It's not just firetrucks- it's utility trucks, moving vans, car haulers, and big rigs who service homes. They will shrink in time. But ignoring those vehicle needs is retarded

the annual social cost of cancer and auto accidents are very roughly equivalent imagine a new cancer drug came out that reduced mortality by 90% across *every* cancer And the AMA aggressively lobbied against it because of its potential suppressive impact on hospital visits and surgeries... That is the unions wrt to autonomous robotaxis right now.
Kane 謝凱堯@kane

Waymo is so good at saving lives that if it were a new drug in trial, it would hit the bar for being unblinded and made immediately available to the control group for ethical reasons. @MorePerfectUS would prefer to keep killing pedestrians.
