Jesus our Immanuel is God with us, truly God & truly man. To the religious He shows God & man free & fearless, to the self-righteous he shows God & man compassionate & forgiving, to the powerful He shows God & man just & sacrificial. He shows us who we are & to whom we belong.

When pastors use the term "inappropriate behavior" to describe using age/power disparity, illegitimate spiritual authority, and false prophetic guidance to pursue sexual gratification from a young disciple, they don't hide the depth of their wickedness, they reveal it.

Starting our Christmas series “True Light” at DV on Sunday, after the pop-up women’s Christmas Tea on Saturday. ‘It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas . . .’

Expecting people to honor/celebrate something for which they have no genuine feeling, forces them to resist or pretend, and convinces them that what you value in this way must not be meaningful on its own. The power of Christmas is not in its performance, but in its surprise.

Enjoyed talking with Jay Pathak, National Director of Vineyard USA and Lead Pastor of the Mile High Vineyard, on the podcast "We Are Vineyard". We told a bunch of stories and laughed a lot. I don't really know podcasts, but it seemed like meaningful fun. vineyardusa.org/podcast/

Some of the things that deserve the most gratitude in our lives go unrecognized until they come under threat and we start to imagine life without them.

My Friend David Pytches has passed from this life into glory, his mortality clothed with immortality, he finished his race and has received the victor's crown. His faith, vision and leadership brought change, renewal and hope to his time and place. What a gift, only gratitude.

My son asked my 8 year old, baseball loving grandson Leo which name he would rather have if they had named him “Brett” or “Chet”. Leo said, “Brett for George Howard Brett”! Philip “who”? Leo wide eyed “George Brett”!? Royals fandom runs deep in our family even in Canada:)

These 2 beautiful fledgling great horned owls came visiting this evening. They just sat there for a couple of hours taking it all in, listening to Nancy encouraging them that our tree would be a good home and please stay:)

If you are going to root for a team that doesn’t win very often, you have to start early:) My grandson Ezra doesn’t know all the baseball disappointments that await him as a KC Royals fan.

It has been several years since I have preached on Easter or spoken at a sunrise service. There is no other day in the year when I would feel so honored to be up before dawn:)

Jesus made His Messianic claim entering Jerusalem on the foal of a donkey, as Zech 9:9 says, “righteous and victorious, lowly riding on a donkey “. He choose to display His “lowly” gentleness in this way to underline that the goal of His Messianic reign was the triumph of peace.

@davidparkerdv Padtor David, Maria & I felt so fortunate to be able to come back from Ohio for a few days and be able to see you preach this sermon in person and speak with you for a moment, as well. Both were a blessing for us both! We send our love and gratitude.
