UK relations with Saudi Arabia & the Gulf monarchies are under the spotlight as never before. My new book, 'AngloArabia', is the only comprehensive analysis of Britain's deep ties with these states. For review copies, email ukpublicity@politybooks.com politybooks.com/bookdetail/?is…

My Guardian article on how 14 years of Conservative foreign policy has contributed to immeasurable suffering and loss of life in the Middle East. And there is little reason to expect substantive change from the incoming Labour government. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

I was interviewed by Ian Dale on LBC a few weeks ago, on Labour's weak and inadequate pledge to recognise a Palestinian state, and on its (still) terrible position on Gaza more generally youtube.com/watch?v=hwNn1K…

Brilliant teach out at @uos_encampment with @davidwearing and @StavrianakisA on history of British involvement in Palestine and the arms trade. British-made components maintain fighter jets over Gaza enacting collective punishment reminiscent of imperial violence through time.

On Sky News earlier talking about US-UK strikes on Yemen. Doubtful that this will deter the Houthis. What is needed is a comprehensive region-wide de-escalation, through diplomacy, with a Gaza ceasefire at its heart.

"The arms industry helps to maintain status as a global power...you maintain that by selling arms and the Saudis are big customers." Saudi Arabia's strategic value to the UK has given Mohammed bin Salman special status, says David Wearing international relations expert.

As this case shows, talking about racial capitalism doesn't mean talking about racist structures *instead* of racist discourses and attitudes. It means analysing the symbiotic relationship between the two

.@davidwearing joins @poltheoryother the nature of Britain's relationship with the Gulf states, and why it's a mistake to see Western support for brutal, absolutist authority in the region as simply self-consciously cynical realpolitik.
