When addressing Theosophy and Western esotericism, French scholarship often falls into psychological reductionism. By contrast, the German tradition offers a broader understanding of the world: akin to Jakob von Uexküll’s concept of Umwelt. Antoine Faivre, however, draws attention to a compelling figure: Bernard Gorceix, a French Germanist. Gorceix traces the origins of the modern esoteric concept of Nature to Romanticism, filtered through Baroque mysticism and the philosophical gestation of the "feeling of nature." The third peak of German mysticism (seventeenth century) mirrors our attraction to the enchanted, the Streben, what the Romantics called "the Infinite." As Gorceix observes, we often seek a "dubious salvation" in distant, exotic spiritualities, while neglecting the hidden riches of the European tradition, long repressed. Flambée et agonie contributes to rescuing from neglect a vast portion of these treasures, which were only waiting to be rediscovered. The West owes little to the East, and the divergence is fundamental: whereas the East proposes a "vertical" flight from the world toward non-duality, the West proposes a "horizontal" path: the sanctification of History, the embrace of duality, and the persistence of the individual Self. Sources: • Antoine Faivre, Theosophy, Imagination, and Tradition: Studies in Western Esotericism. • Bernard Gorceix, Flambée et agonie: mystiques du XVIIe siècle allemand.

This could not be more wrong. The purpose of paganism IS the worship of the Gods. The hierarchy of worship and devotion is: 1. The Gods. 2. The intermediary spirits. 3. Those among mankind admitted into the Celestial Order (Sages, heroes, saints, etc). To put ancestors at the top is a complete inversion of the Truth and of Tradition.
Rogue | Frontier Philosophy@RoguesPhilo

The purpose of Paganism is not the worship of Gods and Goddesses. Paganism, instead, seeks to honor authentic European aristocracy and hierarchy. Here's the Pagan critique of equality and how to revive our European culture of exceptionalism. 🧵 1/20

Traditional civic religion or public cults had esoteric dimensions: In Rome, pontifices, salii, flamines and augures protected ritual knowledge. In Greece, the priests of Apollo at Delphi knew which questions could be asked and how to veil the answers. Even in Norse tradition…
Æsiric Media@Aesiric_Media

@dawnlightmage @anthroepicist Traditional Paganism was exoteric, due to having public temples. Mystery schools were esoteric because they were secret societies with very different religious opinions that'd be persecuted if they were found out

I can handle hate when it’s backed by solid reasoning. I take breaks from here because this place is for bandwagon haters, who skip the thinking part, like children turning up their noses at food they haven’t even tried.

@daatdarling Yes, Christianity’s metaphysical scaffolding is borrowed from preexisting systems, which was later disfigured to fit its narrative. Hopefully, this wave will collapse pretty quickly once people read the works.

@dawnlightmage I don't think it is, nor do I agree with this, I am making a prediction of a movement that I could foresee happening. I am incredibly critical of Christianity and I think this take would be incorrect.

@LeDumezilien @Hruljina @PauperPeter Cicero wrote about the Gods, but his primary intention was not to seek a metaphysical union. He was more rhetorical and dialectical, presenting different philosophical views without fully endorsing any of them.

@dawnlightmage so public officials are to keep away the truth from “le masses”? and this truth being the myths are apparently not literally true?

After the month of Janus, god of beginnings and thresholds, we welcome February, named for Februa. A time of expiation (Lupercalia) and honoring the dead and kin (Parentalia, Feralia, Caristia). A true spiritual path begins with purification and the veneration of our ancestors.

@anthroepicist Because “crafted” doesn’t mean fake, invented, or merely human. Sacred myths are shaped not to deceive, but to reveal truth through image, symbol, and poetry.
