This is Richard, Dawn's husband. Dawn died yesterday morning after a short illness. I'll keep you updated as things become clearer (excuse brevity, but character limit)

Never thought I'd utter the phrase "At least when I had Covid" but at least then I could sleep. This upper respiratory tract infection is brutal. 7 days in and still coughing up brown phlegm, got a tight chest, and have had about 2 hours sleep over the past 3 days.

I just want to sleep but my URTI sounds like rice krispies. :(

Wow! @BBCNews found a woman whose daughter’s outpt appointment was cancelled today. They clearly thought she would be anti the nurses strikes. Instead she gave the most intelligent and empassioned argument for decent pay for nurses I have heard yet. Bravo!

@David__Osland If we're hiring from other countries then how do we look attractive when our own staff are striking? (We don't) Other countries need nurses and it's not like we've got great weather or being in the EU as a draw now.

The Tories have promised '50,000 extra nurses'. They're not going to be able to recruit them on current rates of pay, are they?

@David__Osland The trouble is if they were magically able to get 50,000 to sign up train as a nurse (because it's so attractive as a career right now) today then in 3 or 4 years we would have more nurses.

@CheekyMark1917 @David__Osland The Health Care Assistant when I was on the labour ward after having my baby was the kindest most helpful person I encountered. I know how much she was probably earning and it's a disgrace.

@David__Osland Nurses wages are piss poor. But what most people don’t get is that much basic nursing is done by *Health Care Assistants* who don’t get much more than the minimum wage.

@drgandalf52 I had a child in tears at school the other day because she felt ill and her Dad said she couldn't take any more time off school since they'd received an attendance letter. Total nonsense. Yes - chronically off school children should be followed up - but they always were.

There is no such thing as a sick note for children. Please do NOT contact your GP for one of these. If your child's school has asked for one, then the school should put the request in writing to the practice with your written consent or it is NOT a genuine request.
