Six days later, police found Michael's black 2004 Volkswagen Jetta in Elmont, 30 miles from his home, engine still running, no signs of struggle inside, no clues whatsoever. His phone went silent. His bank accounts and credit cards showed no activity after the night he vanished. Forensic examination of the car revealed nothing. "He seems to have fallen off the face of the earth," the investigating inspector told reporters. His mother Barbara later recalled a joke she used to make whenever he went on dates: "I'd say, 'tell me where you're going to be, so I know if they ever kidnap you.' He used to laugh." It's been 16 years. Michael Taus and Romeo have never been found.
