Perhaps the greatest killer of the intellectual is his need to be right. In order to fulfill his calling, which is to be right, his great intellect is put to tremendous use justifying his preferences rather than interrogating them. A tragedy unlike no other.

Once when I was a young game designer I confidently told my boss during a one-on-one, "I don't care what people think about me." He laughed and goes, "Look at the way you style your hair, Autumn. Of course you care about what people think of you." In that moment I felt like I was given permission to let an obviously false belief about myself collapse. I thought that not caring was the *right* thing to do, so I clung to it even when all evidence was the contrary. A lot of things are like that - we assert claims about our behavior and our self because we want them to be true, not because they actually are. When we allow ourselves to look at ourselves, the raw and bleeding truth of ourselves, then we can actually begin to truly understand what is right, what is correct, and what is actually an abrasive dissonance causing us pain.

When over 170 people were slaughtered in Kwara, life in Ilorin resumed the very next day. Markets opened, people went to work, and the president carried on as if nothing happened. The painful truth is this: Nigerians don’t value themselves enough to unite against a broken system. We complain, we mourn briefly, then we move on. The system is dysfunctional, yes but so are we. We are not just victims of the system. We are part of the dysfunction. 💔

the problem with romanticizing an authoritarian like Lee kuan Yew is that people can get carried away with thinking this is the norm. meanwhile LKY is a 1 in a billion type of person, we might never see any authoritarian who balanced repression with freedoms as he did and taking a chance on finding one is extremely dangerous. Also the scale of the problem he had to deal with must also be taken into context, singapore was a population of 2m people.

Water [mass noun]: A colourless, transparent and odourless liquid. Don't say: This is a water. Instead say: This is a glass of water. It doesn't matter if it's half full or half empty. #KadunaLanguageClass

Friend asked if I was a capitalist or socialist. I said neither. Where I am from, we cannot even agree on the value of human life. Rulers have two objectives only. 1. Steal 2. Consolidate power. I have no use for such meaningless ideological debates.

If innocent citizens can be killed (beheaded) in Borno State while leaders carry on as usual, something is deeply wrong with the system.
